![]() wrote in message news ![]() When down and going into reverse the motor pulls up. Light reverse is fine. Its when your throttling up in reverse a bit that the motor pops up. When in forward or neutral the motor is not locked in the down position. This is done intentionally so that if you should hit an object while going forward the motor is free to kick up. The forward thrust of the propeller will keep the motor in the down position. When you shift into reverse there should be a latch that locks the motor down. Look at the motor mount, down near the bottom of the transom. You will see a series of holes through the mounting bracket. Through one pair of these holes there should be a rod, perhaps 3/8" diameter. The hole you select for this rod establishes the full down trim position. I am not sure that I am seeing the rod in the picture, which might be your problem. On the motor, about 6 inches or so below where the lifting cylinder attaches, there should be a hook that is supposed to engage that rod. If you shift the motor in/out of reverse you should be able to see that hook flip up. Possible reasons it doesn't work: 1) The rod that the hook is supposed to catch is missing. 2) the hook is jammed. 3) the shift mechanism has gotten sloppy and it doesn't move enough. I am sure that once you see the motion of the hook it will be obvious what is wrong. Rod |
