question on golden rod and dehumidifer
I just found these two, both west marine products, in the boat I bought
earlier this summer. My question is do you use these throughout the year or are they designed for a winterization type of storage? |

What are your humidity concerns that could not be addressed with a couple of bags of damp rid and some kitty litter in the cabin? Make sure that you have adequate ventilation with your winter cover, especially if you shrink wrap. Also make sure to provide some air space under all your cushions/mattresses and prop your fridge and cabinet doors open. |

On my old boat I would take the cusions and such out and keep in the garage |
The golden Rod is designed to be plugged in all the time. Is a sealed low
wattage heater. Is not like leaving a space heater or light bulb burning. As to plugged in all the time, do you unplug all the lamps in your house as well as the radio everytime you leave? I seem to remember heated dipstick replacements that would keep the oil in your engine warm, thus transferring some of that heat to the engine block. Is the Golden Rod similar to this? Eisboch |

So plug in the golden rod during the winter, any idea spot in the engine compartment? Do you also recommend leaving the dehumifier pluged in during winter in the cabin? thanks. |

Eisboch From what I understand, very similar. Only lived for a year in snow country, Dayton, OH for a year of school. Other than that I drive to the Sierra Nevada Mt. for skiing and antifreeze in the truck works fine. I do boat during the winter, sturgeon fishing. |

I do not use one, as I have closed cooling and antifreeze and rarely freezes 40 miles from San Francisco. I just know what they are. |
