I seem to remember heated dipstick replacements that would keep the oil in
your engine warm, thus transferring some of that heat to the engine block.
Is the Golden Rod similar to this?

From what I understand, very similar. Only lived for a year in snow country,
Dayton, OH for a year of school. Other than that I drive to the Sierra
Nevada Mt. for skiing and antifreeze in the truck works fine. I do boat
during the winter, sturgeon fishing.
