The federal people say power is still sporadic and the water is undrinkable. Are these guys talking to each other? Apparently not. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want to go back to a city without electricity, potable water, and a working emergency system, but I have choices, and perhaps many New Orleans folks do not. We got a nice phone call from the two Mississippi union families living in our rental house in NE Florida. Both of the guys got work from the union business agent and worked a full week last week, and the local business agent is making sure deductions are taken from their pay for their pension and welfare payments to their local union. That means their family health care stays intact. Their kids are in the local schools. I think they're driving back to their home areas this weekend with a U-haul to see what can be salvaged. According to their wives, there are at least a dozen families they know from the Gulfport-Biloxi area who are at least temporarily in NE Florida. Oh...a benefit to me...the inside of my rental needed painting. Well, it's going to get painted now, and I suspect any other work that it needs will be done. There's a 'good news' story you won't hear from JohnH. A real win win situation. |
