Gould,
You mean out of all the times we have disagreed on an issue, this is the
only time I was correct? If so, it was my turn to be right, heck it must
be my turn for the next few years. ; )

Crapperoo. You're right, and I'm wrong (gotta be a first time for
everything) about the town where Krispy Kreme was founded. When you
mentioned NC, I did a quick Google-up.

Wait! I know how to make this on topic. Do you ever start your
boating
day with Krispy Kremes?

Krispy Kreme donuts are a relatively new item in my part of California.
I'm watching _That 70's Show_ and a box of Krispy Kreme donuts appears.

Have Krispy Kreme donuts been around a long time east of California
(that's my guess) or was it out of place as a 1970's stage prop?

I used the word prop, so this really is an on topic post; really, it
is.

We have a KK factory about 5 miles away. As I can't eat less than half a
dozen
of the buggers when they're still hot, I tend to stay away from the damn
place.

Coming home from nights of drinking, in my youth, we stopped at the one just
south of Alexandria on Rt. 1 and bought a doz. each fresh out of the fryer.
Damn things melted in your mouth and the doz. was gone in about 3 minutes.
Try sleeping while drunk and on a sugar high!

They closed that place and built a brand new one right next door. Donuts are
pretty damn good, too.

Had em here in tallahassee in late 60s. Lousy donuts.

Krispy Kreme donuts suck.

What a horrible anti-American attitude! I suppose you're a Dunkin'
Doughnuts
fan. They *really* suck, worse than Microsoft!

I don't like Drunkin' Donuts either.

However, in the pantheon of suckitude, Krispy Kreme is at the top of
the pile of sugar laden crap.

I actually like Dunkin Donut. Good the warm feelings after them being the
only coffee serving place open in the middle of the night in Lima, Peru
airport.

It seems to be a preference thing... either people like cake donuts,
or yeast donuts.

Krispy Kreme is the King in yeast donuts. We used to get them from
the KK in downtown Columbia, SC in the '60's when my family passed
that way. We'd buy two dozen... one for the ride home, and one for
the next day.

KK makes a pretty good cruller as well. Those places up in Toronto
(Tim Horton's?) made a slightly better cruller, but their yeast ones
sucked.

C'mon Shortwave, tell us how you really (or is it relly) feel about Krispy
Kreme donuts. ;-)

This thread gave me a good laugh. Apparently, there is no topic, political
or otherwise, that doesn't merit intent discussion on this ng! I expected
one or two replies, not 10 or 20. :-)

Now what's wrong with Krispy Kreme's? Who's donuts get your vote?

The votes seem to be on the side of Krispy Kreme, so I've gotta ask, what's
wrong with Shortwave? Is he a communist? Or worse, a liberal?

Firstly he has no class. And, secondly he has not taste!

Now just a dern minute there, John!! I've lived my whole life here in DD
country, and while we don't know much about Indians, we can recognize war
talk when we hear it!

Now, I admit that DD kinda lost their soul when they went to regional
bakeries, but their coffee is still the most popular hereabouts. I noted
Chuck's earlier comment about how good the KK coffee is -- you won't find
much agreement on that in this area, but its unsurprising coming from a
place that thinks Starbucks is the center of the universe. :-)

There are a few places in eastern Mass where DD and KK are neighbors, and it
was common for a while to see folks get their donuts at KK, then pull
through the DD for coffee. It didn't take these cagey New Englanders long
to figure out, though, that KK are just plain old donuts that are hot and
overloaded with sugar, and the fact is that *any* donut is delish when warm,
but only KK's turn inedible when cooled. Those of us old enough can
remember buying donuts from DD still warm and coated with a *real* honey
mix. Most of th KKs around here are in the death throes described elsewhere
by Chuck.

The warm part is true, which is why God invented microwaves. I live about half
way between a DD and a KK, but very seldom go to the DD. Actually, I try to
stay away from both of them!
