Hi All,
Here's the question, I've got a 16ft boat with about a 5ft wide back end. On it I've got a 65hp motor, and the separate mount for a trolling motor. I have a 9.9hp motor which I was considering using as the trolling motor, but lately I'm thinking that it may be a touch too large size wise, and weight wise. What do you guys think? As it stands if I walk from side to side in the boat the boat does move and lean to the heavier weighted side. Mounting the 9.9 on the right side would mean an extra 70 pounds of fulltime weight there which I suppose I can offset a bit by putting the gas can for it towards the left side. ????????????/ anyone had this issue before? |

anybody?
whats your ratio of trolling motor to main engine? "Chris" wrote in message . .. Hi All, Here's the question, I've got a 16ft boat with about a 5ft wide back end. Well, if you're doing 35 mph with the trolling motor, it's probably too big. ;-) |

I'm looking to do 3 km per hour, that's all.

Sounds a bit big. I can't get my 12-ft to troll slow enough with the 9.9 - I use an electric. As for weight, you can put the battery and/or trolling motor tank on the opposite side to the motor, or maybe even move the big motor over a bit. Lloyd Sumpter "The Tin Boat" Mirrocraft 12 |

Do you use a 30lb electric? How many hours do you get off of a single
battery charge? "Lloyd Sumpter" wrote in message news ![]() On Tue, 06 Sep 2005 19:39:00 -0400, Chris wrote: Hi All, Here's the question, I've got a 16ft boat with about a 5ft wide back end. I don't know how long it would last at "full throttle" (I suspect maybe 1.5 hrs or so), but at trolling speeds it runs all day and has lots left. The "Maximizer" cct means it draws way less at lower throttle settings than conventional motors. That's with a Group 24 deep-cycle battery. Lloyd Sumpter "The Tin Boat" Mirrocraft 12 |

No kidding eh!
That's pretty impressive for an electric motor. Does Minn Kot-a make that model? What would your guess be as to performance between trolling with a 30lb thrust, and this 40lb thrust? I would never look to go full throttle, simply trolling at 3kph, then use the big motor to boot around.
