Default (evil laugh) ha ha ha it works

Hey all I just played around and made an outdrive cooler/shower for my alpha
3.0 connected to a bayliner 175. Its amazing what a little alchohol and some
rubber tubing mixed with some copper tubing can do. Ill be damned, with the
wife driving I stuck my head over the back and saw a pretty good stream of
H20 going over the top of the outdrive. Slowed the boat down to feel the
drive, COOL AS THE WATER I WAS IN.
HAHAHA IT WORKS
Just wanted to share this

I would agree that pouring water on an outdrive exposed to the sun, at least
some of the time, would cool it. My question would be, "What makes you think it
needed cooling?"

Too much alchohol mixed into that mix.

Why the hell does the outdrive need cooling? Its already in
the water isnt it?

Next project might be to take the return flow from the engine
and point it up in the air. it would make a cool wanne be
rooster tail effect (jetskis do this all the time)

Out drive "showers" are quite common on high performance boats. A lot of
heat is generated in the upper gearcase, where the two pinion shafts are
mated, and this part is virtually never in the water. Tests have shown these
showers to scientifically increase longevity on the upper gear set.

Now does this guys Bayliner need one? Don't know...he didn't say what engine
he had.

He didnt say what he had. I knew a guy who had a 20' Bayliner (Capri?) with
a 496 Mercruiser/Bravo II X, who ran a shower.

A true "go-fast" with 80+ mph.

Granted these are the exceptions, rather than the rule, but hey...they are
out there...

He said he had a 3.0 - me thinks, ie a fourbanger with a alpha drive. I
don't think he needs it. But hack he had fun making it :-)
