Wasn't Harry the one sounding off about how terrific the people in Denmark, Norway, and the Netherlands have it? Ever visited any of the above countries? They've invested in reliable transit systems that allow most citizens to do without cars. Cars are used for groceries and vacations. Obviously, you've never been caught in rush hour traffic in Paris, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Frankfurt, Rome, Stuttgart, Prague, Geneva, or any other decent sized city in Europe, or you'd know that statement was false, along with the one above it. In those countries, gas prices are almost triple the price per gallon that we pay here. I guess that's how they pay for their "free" social services over there. No, they have progressive tax structures, just like here. How'd you like to fill up your SUV and the bill comes $150? That's why we have SUVs and they have reasonably-sized autos. How'd you like it if it cost you $1 for every 3 miles you drove? And you weren't in a boat? You're projecting the American lifestyle on folks who don't live the same way. jps And you're projecting a lack of knowledge of European driving habits. Isn't that the truth.........first of all gas taxes are not progressive.........and the size of the cars has to do with the size of the streets....... -- John H. On the 'PocoLoco' out of Deale, MD |
