morgan 41 Oi or CLassic? ... feedback

Hi,

I am looking, for a friend of mine in France, for information about Morgan
41.

What is the difference between OI and Classic, is the difference of price
justified?

What are the best and worse issue of the Morgan 41?

What are the main issue to control when you buy a second market Morgan?

What is the engine really accurate on this boat?

Efficiency on voyage?

Does it fit to cruising in Caraibes?

Quite a lot of boats are shown with fans, does it mean insufficiency

of insulation?

Many thanks for information.

Thanks
Philippe

for responding please drop -discret- in my adress

The Out Island was built by MOrgan between about 1972 and 1983 (approx).
The "Classic" was built by Morgan Division of Catalina Yachts, who
bought out the company, from 1984 to 1991 (again approx).

Worst- slow & ungainly. They don't go to windward very well, and don't
steer very well. Some people really dislike the cockpit arrangement that
gives a walk-way into the aft cabin.

The best- low cost, big roomy boat. Some people really like the way they
look, too.

Not sure what you mean here.

They motor very well. In fact, they make great motorboats. A friend of
ours converted a Morgan Out Island into a trawler.

Yes, that's what they were originally designed & built for.

Quite a lot of boats are shown with fans, does it mean insufficiency

of insulation?

No, IMHO. Older fiberglass boats aren't particularly well insulated,
Morgans are above average in thsi respect.

The Catalina built Classic 41 isn't that bad a sailer, as compared to
the Morgan builts. It has a better sail plan, 4,000#s less
displacement, deeper draft (4' 10 compared to 4' 2") and and the keel
is cut away for and aft. Certainly no round the bouys racer, but a
decent sailing boat.

The electrical wiring IMHO. Codes & standards were different in the
1970s & 1980s, most original wiring & electrical equipment will not have
aged well... then you have modification & additions made by previous
owners, which may be poorly done.

Another issue which isn't a big expense but is definitely a lot of
trouble, is replacing the plexiglass & rubber seals on ports & hatches.
After ~25 years, much of it will be degraded & possibly leaking.
