Fuel capacity of 790 gallons is marginal for a boat that will burn 50
to 60 gallons per hour with the smallest engine option. Styling on the
newer Vikings also leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion.

I agree with your comment about the tankage, but many people would
operate at something less than the fastest cruising speeds and realize
slightly better economy. Among the notes in my file on this vessel is a

speed and fuel economy test performed by another organization. I can't
vouch for the accuracy, but they reported a fuel burn of 34 gph to turn
19 kts at 1500 rpm and projected a prudent range of 399 nm.

Fuel burn hit your 60 gph figure at 2000 rpm (29.5 kt) and reduced
range to 342 nm.

The last few knots get pretty expensive. Nobody would run at WOT (2400)
for an extended period of time but 2400 rpm reportedly turned 34.8 kt,
with a fuel burn of a mere 91.6 gph. (range, 270 nm)

I like the styling of the 61, for what it is. Would I own a boat styled
like that? Probably not, but at somewhere around $2mm that's a moot
point. I think there are darn few ugly boats, but then again just today
I was driving through a run down industrial section of town to visit a
davit mfgr and I was amazed at the number of beautiful things to see
there. I may be too "liberal" in my appreciation for a wide variety of
designs. :-)
