Default Tohatsu/Nissan Stalled in Japan

Was about to blame the service department at the marina.
My 25hp Nissan was running fine two months ago, but needed a new tiller
handle assembly. Everytime I called about it, the repair shop give me
the story that Tohatsu/Nissan couldn't ship the part.

Finally decided to call Tohatsu USA directly. Got the parts department
and talked to a guy who said, "Yeh, we get calls from dealers, repair
shops and customers like you all the time. We order parts from the
factory (in Japan) and they send them when they feel like it."

Well, I've lost use of the motor for two months.

Great little motor but lousy headquarters supplier.

How much money did you save buying this motor?

===========================================

Exactly the right question. I paid close to top dollar for my little 15
hp Merc ten years ago because I needed it in a hurry. However, it has
never skipped a beat and always starts first or second pull. And if it
did need service there are dealers and parts just about everywhere.

Deed is done. Perhaps some other service department somewhere in the US
has one in stock, or a salvage place has one from a lunched motor. Might
be worth burning up a LD phone card calling dealers around the US.
