We bought a Tempurpedic and have been using it for about three weeks. The wife
loves it. I found myself waking up sweating. After about three nights, I woke up itching badly. Thought maybe bed bugs were in the foam. This kept getting worse, with a rash all around the trunk area (which happens to be the area that 'sinks' deepest into the foam. After about ten days the rash was spreading up my back and sides, itching like mad. Yesterday the doctor diagnosed 'contact dermatitis (sp?). Nothing in my lifestyle has changed, except for the TP mattress. Last night I slept in guest room. No waking up, no itching, no new rash, and the old rash seems to have dissipated somewhat. So. Be sure you get a decent guarantee. We bought the mattress and the adjustable bed as a 'deal' ($3500 - a deal??) The adjustable bed portion of the deal is not returnable. Caveat emptor. Anyone have suggestions on a good mattress? -- John H. On the 'PocoLoco' out of Deale, MD |

No question: http://www.selectcomfort.com/
I have one in my aft cabin, so this is now on topic. . . John H. wrote: We bought a Tempurpedic and have been using it for about three weeks. The wife loves it. I found myself waking up sweating. Wife reminded me that we have a custom size on the boat from:
http://www.regin-inc.com/ As good as the Select Comfort we have at home and cost much less. Anyone have suggestions on a good mattress? Thanks Jim. The Rein seems to have the memory foam, which is causing me the problem. But I'll look into the select comfort. The 5000 model looks interesting, although it doesn't have all the bells and whistles available. -- John H. On the 'PocoLoco' out of Deale, MD |

I think it's the heat build-up in the areas that sink into the foam the most. Latex is advertised as more 'breathable' than the Tempurpedic stuff. -- John H. On the 'PocoLoco' out of Deale, MD |

My wife and I got a Select Comfort. We both love it. I recommend it
highly, and definitely will never go back to a traditional matress. Paid about 1500 for it (queen size) at the home show here in Atl. We looked at the TP matress and loved it, but the one main difference was that the SC can be unzipped and thrown in the wash if the pillow top gets dirty, where no other matress that I've ever seen can be cleaned. And BTW, you only hear a slight clicking noise for about 1 minute after you change your firmness setting. You don't hear a motor run every now and then during the night. Only time we here the pump run is when one of changes their setting. Your wife will love it when it comes time to make the bed. Mattress weighs practically nothing when she picks up a corner to tuck in the bedding. My wife says they should use that in their adverts. |
