boats people, BOATS!!!
Most people with a decent head on their shoulders use "OT"... I'd recommend
filtering based on subject..... many folks who post political bandwidth waste also are some of the most knowledgeable... -j "Ernie" wrote in message .. . Here is my solution to all those non-rec.boats messages - I add the individuals to my delete filter list and they no longer bother me. The messages are few, but they do deal with rec.boats. It's too bad that I am adding some who contribute to this group, but it's the only way I can keep this group straight. If some of you have a better idea, I would like to hear from you "Chris Newport" wrote in message news:1347265.86acdFPb2h@callisto... You were probably too busy being a total asshole posting your foreign (to most of us) politics here where it is not welcome. You have the best politicians that money can buy - either live with it or get elected and change it. Clue No 1: rec.* is an international hierarchy. Local usian issues belong elsewhere. |

Well, that's a valid question to the complainers. What have they done to improve the group? How many on topic posts have they made before complaining? Well, I think it's kinda rude for these folks to jump up and tell the majority of posters here to stfu. Heck, take a little personal responsibility before trying to make everyone else change. Use a filter. Have a little will power and not read the posts you find offensive. It's not that hard to spot the off topic posts, or those who consistently have nothing but vinegar to spew. I suspect new ones come in, see the mess, and leave. That's how things work. All groups can't be all things to all people. This group is what it is and it's not going to change because some newby stumbles on in and doesn't like the dynamics of the group. If it did change to satisfy the newby, the next newby to stumble on in wouldn't like what they found and would want things to change to satisfy their view of what rec.boats should be. You make some valid points, but I disagree with the above statment. ALL newbies come in here expecting topics on boating. NO one expects to find half of the content to be political. I don't want to change this group, just change those that think this is alt.politics. If I would be successful, I can guarantee you no other Newby would come in here wanting to change it back to politics, or anything other than boating for that mater. If this group were about nothing but sailing, I wouldn't have said a thing. Though it wouldn't have met my expectations, it would still be ON topic. It is what it is. If you don't like what's here, and can't modify your own behavior so you get something positive from it, it's best to keep looking among the other 30,000 or so groups to choose from. bb |

Well, that's a valid question to the complainers. What have they done to improve the group? How many on topic posts have they made before complaining? Very few if any. Most of the whiners want to suck down whatever knowledge there may be here about boats, without donating anything they know, assuming tney know anything worth knowing. Which is doubtful, since they don't contribute, for the most part. Harry, ever stop to think that most of the newbie whiners are exactly that... NEW at boating. Most of them CAN'T donate any useful knowledge until they gain some by "sucking down" some of the posts here. In addition, if a newbie would "donate" information and it wasn't 100% correct, guys like you would jump down their throat telling them what a stupid idiot they are. I haven't been here long, but I can tell you that I have donated to this message board on a few occasions. I find it hard to "suck down" as much knowledge as I had hoped though, because most of it is OT political garbage. |

There is nothing new under the sun, so they say. The same is true for
wrecked boats. Every boating subject has been hashed and rehashed a dozen times. Therefore, if you need info, do a google search on the subject wanted on rec.boats and read the results, therefore avoiding the remarks of a few incredibly ignorant people.
