the "political" threads in this newsgroup. This is REC.BOATS. Post your

newsgroups. It's bad enough it gets posted here, but to reply only makes it
worse.

You might as well set automatic filters to remove those few people
that incessantly post off topic. Filter out the "OT" posts and about
a dozen people and this *is* a boating newsgroup. If you have been
around long enough, you will have noticed that 95% of the OT posters
don't even own a boat, so there is nothing *on* topic going on in
their lives to post.... thus all of the way-out political blather.

I know, I know... don't let the door hit my ass on the way out, huh? Well
don't worry. There are a dozen message boards on the web where I don't have
to filter through 10 messages to find one about boating.

It seems to be their purpose to vandalize this news group to the point
that there are no boaters here.... you leaving mad only supports
their cause. Ignore them.

I guess I missed all "Tigger's" contributions to this newsgroup...

It would appear that they may have been a lurker for a couple of
years, and obviously have not always been known as "Tiger." "Tiger"
seems more enamored of jetskis than boats.

I suspect there are a *lot* more lurkers here, than contributors....

Well, perhaps if they were contributors...

You were probably too busy being a total asshole posting your foreign
(to most of us) politics here where it is not welcome.
You have the best politicians that money can buy - either live with it
or get elected and change it.

Clue No 1: rec.* is an international hierarchy. Local usian issues
belong elsewhere.

I don't recall any of your contributions, either, Chris.

Very good Gene. You are correct. I've been a regular in rec.sport.jetski
for the past 7 years. Recently sold my last Sea-Doo and purchased a boat.

Harry Krause (why does that name sound familiar?) - Apparently you did miss
all of my contributions. Like I said, I've only been here a couple of
months, but I have contributed to a handful of threads.

So, is this one of your boating posts, fella?

Sorry about that. I always post under "Tiger", both at home and at work.
But just set the account up on this laptop.

It is easy to miss (or not to attribute) posts from an author that
posts under numerous aliases and ISPs.

It's still pretty mild. You should have seen it during the last
Presidential election. (Before and After!) :o)

Tiger,

It is a lost cause... A few people here just use this as their own
playground, and the topic of cleaning up comes up every few months.
In the end, the only comments you will receive are around "Well, YOU
seem to be posting off topic, or What about YOU...."

Will never change peoples behavior, and you will note that most all
the posts are from a few people. I suspect new ones come in, see the
mess, and leave.

Actually, the topic is brought up more on a weekly basis.

In the end, the only comments you will receive are around "Well, YOU
seem to be posting off topic,

Oh, I see plenty of people who agree with the complaints about off
topic posts.

or What about YOU...."

Well, that's a valid question to the complainers. What have they done
to improve the group? How many on topic posts have they made before
complaining?

Well, I think it's kinda rude for these folks to jump up and tell the
majority of posters here to stfu. Heck, take a little personal
responsibility before trying to make everyone else change. Use a
filter. Have a little will power and not read the posts you find
offensive. It's not that hard to spot the off topic posts, or those
who consistently have nothing but vinegar to spew.

I suspect new ones come in, see the
mess, and leave.

That's how things work. All groups can't be all things to all people.
This group is what it is and it's not going to change because some
newby stumbles on in and doesn't like the dynamics of the group. If
it did change to satisfy the newby, the next newby to stumble on in
wouldn't like what they found and would want things to change to
satisfy their view of what rec.boats should be.

It is what it is. If you don't like what's here, and can't modify
your own behavior so you get something positive from it, it's best to
keep looking among the other 30,000 or so groups to choose from.

Very few if any. Most of the whiners want to suck down whatever
knowledge there may be here about boats, without donating anything they
know, assuming tney know anything worth knowing. Which is doubtful,
since they don't contribute, for the most part.
