Hi,
My brother in law has a pontoon boat with a 1996 Evinrude E60 60hp motor. He doesn't know whether it is a 2 cycle or 4 cycle motor, and I told him I'd try to find out before he mixes oil into his gas. Does anyone here know, one way or the other? I'm afraid I don't have any info other than the above, and he apparently doesn't have a manual. Thanks for any help. Nute |

Evinrude never make a 4 cycle engine on a boat in 86.
My best guess would be its a 2 cycle. Does it have an oil filter on it? (4 cycle indication) Is there an oil tank with it???? (2 cycle indication) |

(2 cycle indication) It's a 96, not an 86. I don't know what it looks like - I wish I could take a look at it but it's out of state. I guess if it's definitive one way or the other, that's the only way I could help him out (for example if you said Evinrude never made a 4 cycle in 1996, that would be that) Thanks |

It might be variable ratio oiling (or VRO) - you can tell if it has VRO on the cowl or has an onboard oil tank. If not, then it's a mix your own at 50:1. |
