Doug,
That is very tempting, but they are often vague. "Doug Kanter" wrote in message ... "nate" wrote in message . .. I have had 1997 350 with electronic Ignition. Can anyone offer advise on how to properly set the timing on this puppy? A few weeks back, one of the cable channels had a show about a race mechanic reprogramming the computer in a stock Mustang. He used a laptop and a bank of instruments, with the car on one of those test beds with the back wheels on rollers (dynamometer?). Didn't look like something you'd want to attempt without knowing what you're doing. How about investing in the service manual? |
I'm sometimes surprised at the service manuals I've found at my city's main
library. You might check that option and get lucky. "nate" wrote in message . .. Doug, That is very tempting, but they are often vague. "Doug Kanter" wrote in message ... "nate" wrote in message . .. I've tried a few different settings and it does seem to effect performance, so doesn't this mean that it's adjustable? Sounds to me as if the knock sensor or the computer itself is bad. I'd get it diagnosed. |

Kevin,
In all of your posts, you said, "No, I can not help you, you need to bring your engine to someone who can". Did I miss one of your posts? wrote in message ups.com... I'm starting to think that the rocker arm in the steering wheel is lose. Or
maybe the ball bearings in the throttle pedal is too tight. wrote in message oups.com... nate wrote: I can't get the full rpm's. Slushish out of the hole. It has a slight ting. Now, to show usenet just how damned stupid you are, try this: Show me ONE SINGLE POST where I EVER said "No, I can not help you, you need to bring your engine to someone who can". |

If you have the "0" mark on the harmonic balancer and the corresponding
plate on the timing cover with "TDC" and various marks for other settings like 2,4,6,8, etc before TDC, and you can rotate the dist (I believe the rotation of the dist shaft should be cw so ccw would be advanced more), I see no reason why you couldn't set it with a timing light, off #1 plug. I don't know what your specific engine should be set at. For that you'd need a shop manual or maybe some service shop will tell you. LD "nate" wrote in message . ..
