SEATTLE -- The Coast Guard attempted to rescue a 12-year-old Warrenton, Ore., boy today near Fort Stevens, Ore., after he was pulled away from the shore at about 4 p.m. today. Coast Guard Group/Air Station Astoria, Ore., received a call from the boy's mother on the beach stating her son was swimming and may have been pulled out away from the shore. An HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was launched and arrived at the park a little over 10 minutes later and spotted the boy a few hundred yards away from the shore. The helicopter quickly lowered a rescue swimmer and hoisted the boy. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed on the boy by the crew until the helicopter could land in the park's parking lot and was transferred to awaiting emergency medical technicians. Emergency medical technicians continued CPR on the boy all the way to the hospital, were he was pronounced dead on arrival. ### The U.S. Coast Guard is a military, maritime, multi-mission service within the Department of Homeland Security dedicated to protecting the safety and security of America.
