Congratulations, Don. Looks like a fun little boat.
Don White wrote: Only downside... no instruments.....not required at the cottage I guess. I'd consider getting a small ditty bag of hand held instruments. A VHF and GPS and even a depthsounder, maybe a bearing compass. That way you don't have to cut holes in the boat, introduce the problem of boat wiring & battery power, and you can take them with you on other occasions off the boat, and you can upgrade them much more easily. Also I'd consider mounting a compass, probably one of the mast mounts. Fresh Breezes- Doug King |

Thanks Doug...I have a Standard Horizon 460S VHF, an older Magellan 315 gps
and a Plasimo Iris 50 hand bearing compass. I was thinking of some kind of depth sounder but was concerned about drilling through the hull. Does the kind you hang off the stern work well? I guess on a slow moving sailboat (5 knots tops) it wouldn't be as big a problem as on a faster moving boat. I probably would install a bulkhead type compass that lights up in the dark (Saturn or Ritchie brand??) Now I have to buy a battery. The boat didn't come with one but has a built in shelf, hold-down strap and connection wires. My 6 hp yachtwin has a charger. |
