3hp force/mariner problem

Hello all

I have a 3hp force/mariner outboard, 10 years old, 2 stroke. Has
worked very well for the 2 years I've owned it, but recently developed
a problem:

The outboard starts fine, idles fine, but when I go to rev it beyond
1/3rd or so throttle it dies. I have cleaned the insides of the carb,
cleaned the tank and the fuel line and replaced the spark plug.

The problem seems to rectify itself for a few seconds if I put the
choke on momentarily....

I am running a 1 in 75 oil mix.

Any ideas?

Best regards

Clogged main jet? Did you just clean the insides, or did you take the carb
apart, pull out the needle and seat (or any other rubber/plastic), and soak
it in carb cleaner?

Clean the carbs for real. That means get a carb rebuild kit, get some
carb cleaner, take it apart, carefully clean all passages, you may
need some very thin wire to clean them out, be very clean when putting
things back together.

Thank you both for your postings, I took the carb right apart and
there was a lot of crud in it. I carefully cleaned it and it runs fine
now.
