Replacement for Moped
Since JimH is ready to move up from his Moped, here's a little car that
might be the next logical step. Starting to see quite a number of them on the street here. http://www.smartcarofamerica.com/ |

When and if oil hits $100/bbl, alternatives like this will become more popular. Kiss water skiing goodbye. We have a local dealer for these, and I've been out for a ride on Lake Union in a Duffy. Absolutely quiet, about like sailing. http://www.duffyboats.com/ |

Lots of the homes on the canals have one. |

Why don't you wait for you idol, Harry, to verbally trash someone first and then you can pile on. |

Absolutely quiet, about like sailing. http://www.duffyboats.com/ At Alexander's Lake down in Killingly there are a couple of the 20 footer's. I've been on one and frankly, I'm wasn't overly impressed with the boat. Gee, they look kinda pretty. Yes - it's just not my thing - kind of like pontoon boats - if it were in my power, I'd sink every freakin' one of them - except for those with decent power and speed. Also, as an engineer, I wasn't happy with the quality of the wiring and the routing. Granted, I only saw one and I don't know if it had even been worked on by a butcher. |
I read that in the mid west they have a new kind of fuel, its 85% alcohol
and 15% gas. Only certain cars can use it at this point, you can tell by your vin #. Its about 60 cents less per gallon. Im wondering if the marine people are looking at alternative fuel sources like this for boating.... Ed "Don White" wrote in message ... Starting to see quite a number of them on the street here. http://www.smartcarofamerica.com/ I burn a fuel called B20. It's 80% dinsosaur diesel, and 20% bio-diesel created from vegetable oils. (The discarded oils from fast food fryers are a primary course for the vegetable oil). Burning B20 reduces fossil fuel consumption by 20%. It's possible to burn 100% bio-diesel in many engines, but some of the fuel lines and other rubber items need to be swapped out for different materials at higher concentrations of bio. There's no need to swap hoses at the 20% level, and it's available at the fuel dock. At this time, anybody wanting to use a higher concentration of biodiesel has to haul it down the dock in cans- almost practical for a small sailboat with a 15 gallon fuel tank, but not so for a powerboat with a 300-gallon or larger fuel capacity. |

What do they sell for? Looks like the perfect vehicle to get to the commuter depot. Looks like they start under $ 17K and then upward to $ 20K http://www.thesmart.ca/index.cfm?id=4723 |

Yes...that's the problem. for that kind of cash you can choose between two highly rated econo type cars...the Toyota Corolla or the Honda Civic. |

In rec.boats, all the fish that swim to the right are small fry. Let's be real he if we were Bushbots, the right-wing scumsuckers like Hertvik, Herring, Robbins, Fritz, Smithers, et al, would be kissing our buts and exchanging those "secret" back-channel emails with the daily talking points. But I am concerned with his constant obsession with me and my boat ownership. Perhaps his night nurse has been forgetting about his medications. |

Ok since you asked Bill...In April of 2003 I purchased a Miele 'Comfort' bike for transportation to & from work downtown. It was quite enjoyable pedaling to work but the homeward journey was a bit uphill the whole way. |

I'm still driving the mini-van I purchased just over 10 years ago. It has the 3.0 liter six cylinder engine. Can't go smaller due to required towing capacity. See other thread re bicycle transportation to work. |

Oh, so now you're claiming that if it doesn't involve a moped, that it isn't conserving energy? You didn't ask what Don was driving on land to conserve. You asked what Don is doing to conserve. He's sailboating. Learn to follow a thread? I did follow it. YOU asked the wrong question, is all. |
