John Kerry was insulting to my brother who did 2 tours in country as a
Seabee. Kerry came home and called the soldiers in VN: raping, stealing,
killing innocents soldiers. I would have been in VN, except I lucked out
and got assigned to a transport squadron. And I think Don is also a liar
about being an Airborne vet!

Bill,
I did not know Kerry accused the soldiers of raping, stealing and killing
innocent soldiers. I don't agree with Kerry, but I thought he was smarter
than that.

As far as Don being a Ranger, who knows, but he does seem like he landed on
his head once too often.

You missed a punctuation. Or I did.
He accused the soldiers of raping, stealing and killing innocents.

I think it's safe to say that due to tensions and emotions running high,
quite a few people made blanket judgements of certain groups in the late
1960s and early 1970s, like soldiers and cops. There's no reason to think
Kerry was different from everyone else in this regard. I know *I* had some
unsavory things to say about the police after witnessing what the Chicago
cops did in 1968. But, at the same time, my own interactions with them were
nothing but good, even though I had VERY long hair and looked like someone
the cops enjoyed beating on.

Footnote:
My WORST experience was when I was pulled over by a NY State trooper for
doing 90 in a 55 zone in my screaming yellow 1970 Cougar. For some reason,
he didn't ticket me. But, he harrassed me mercilessly for having an
automatic instead of a Hurst shifter. My BEST experience was while
hitchhiking from Syracuse to the Canadian border. Trooper pulled over. I
said "If this is how my trip's beginning, I'll just walk". I turned around
to get off the entrance ramp. He said "I'm offering you a ride". He asked if
I had any drugs on me. I said no. He said "OK"....get in. I asked him how
fast the car would go before feeling shaky. He showed me. We completed a 100
mile trip in about an hour and three minutes. Great fun. Turned out we had
the same philosophy professor - he was in night school. Discussed Sartre for
most of the trip. So much for stereotypes.

Doug,
You are correct, but Kerry should have know better, since he was a Viet Nam
vet. While there were a few loose cannons over there, the vast majority
were kids scared ****less, who wanted to come with everything attached.

How do you know, with 100% accuracy, that he did NOT witness the things he
claimed? After all, there was the My Lai incident, right? Or, like people
who deny that the holocaust happened, do you not believe the reports of THAT
atrocity?

I can say with 100% accuracy that not all soldiers were baby killers,
rapists etc.

To say that the soldiers were ____________________ because of crimes
committed by a few, is a bad as saying all (insert ethnic group here) are
bums and drunks, because of the actions of a few.

Doug, I think you and Don have gone over the deep end, and your best left to
each other.

In your alcohol-soaked reality, to you imagine having heard Kerry say 100%
of the soldiers in Vietnam committed atrocities?

Doug, if you witness a murder, are you not going to report it? He was an
officer! If he witnessed war crimes, he had two courses of action to take: stop
them and report them so appropriate action could be taken.
