As if that's a good thing.
The militaries take advantage of youthful naivete and most of them get out
after their first term.
If you had *served* you would already know this.

Did you serve? I went in in 1965. Air Force. Draft notice went to the
wrong address late 1964, so knew they were looking for me. Never left the
States. assigned to a military airlift wing. Electronics. Spent most of
the time in an air-conditioned shop at Travis AFB fixing radar's off misc.
transports. I even get to check the Viet Nam era veteran box. Did turn
down chopper pilot offer from the army while at Keesler AFB. 1965 was not a
good year to be flying choppers. The one bad thing about the all volunteer
army is the need for fast, young guns. Get slower, more knowledgeable
gunners.

Yes.

Serving in the military is no longer honorable because the soldiers are
little more than global thugs.

I think that describes the administration perfectly, but not the majority of
the soldiers. I will say, though, that anyone who believes success was
likely has chosen not to learn from history. As we all know, that's always a
mistake. Our tactics didn't work in the Phillippines or Vietnam. They will
never work.

Then you are exposing yourself to the wrong type of media.
The soldiers are stealing, killing and raping innocents....the same sort of
things you find in any run down inner city thug neighborhood.
You have heard about the US military uniforms and equipment showing up on
the black market in Iraq haven't you?

Since World War II, in 35 U.S. attempts to promote democracy around the
world none have succeeded.

Promoters of war too often fail to contemplate the unintended consequences
of an aggressive foreign policy. So far, the anti-war forces have not been
surprised with the chaos that has now become Iraq, or Iran's participation -
but even they cannot know all the long-term shortcomings of such a policy.

In an eagerness to march on Baghdad, the neo-cons gloated of the "shock and
awe" that was about to hit the Iraqi people. It turns out that the real
shock and awe is that they are further from peace in Iraq than they were a
year ago - and Secretary Rumsfeld admits his own surprise.

Don, Don't you understand, "the soldiers wanted to steal, kill and rape
innocents", they should not be held back by your silly discretionary laws.

People that steal, rape and kill should be shot on sight.

I bet you said the same thing about Viet Nam era soldiers. Did you serve in
the military or Peace Corp?

Then again, you'd be wrong.

That's an asinine thing to say.
