I hate to interrupt...
the political nonsense, but I've been having a ball in my tin boat the

Later, Tom What do you think this is, a boating NG? ;-) My dad and I spent many fun hours together fishing off a 16 foot aluminum fishing boat. Lots of fond memories. We are heading out at 5 pm today for an evening cruise and swim on our friends 26 foot Lyman. With temperatures today expected to top out at 92 F it will certainly be refreshing. |
I'm very seriously thinking of getting a 14-16 foot bare necessity boat
with a 25-40 horse outboard to hit the river with. great fuel economy and good for shallow depth. Plus if you hit something the engine bucks up, amd you don't rip the lower end off your I/O! Thanks for your post. I'm really getting tempted now. Tim |

I've been meaning to tow the Lund down to Gander Mountain, bring out a display motor, and see if it fits, but other chores keep getting in the way. |

You ketchin any feeeesh? Fish? Whats that? Yeah actually - caught a couple of small pike yesterday and a 1 lb smallie and a few two pound largemouth today. I'm still getting used to casting from a seat rather than a casting platform on a boat. Later, Tom |

I did a favor for a boat dealer last summer and this was the end result. I got the boat, electric start 25 hp tiller Johnson and trailer as part of the compensation. I ran it for about a hour last fall when I picked it up - it went from fall to winter in the space of a week last year, so I've been putting some time on it this "spring". I should have purchased one of these years ago. The entire boat/engine/trailer package is worth about $4,700 US - the trolling motor, X-85 (used) and batter adds another $250 and if you want to count the handheld chartplotter for another $850, the whole package is under $6,000. And I'll say one thing for Princecraft - this is a quality boat- almost in the Lund category. I'm very impressed with it. Later, Tom |

With reverse, you really don't need to move the handle all that much to maneuver the boat. In this instance, I installed an electrical panel/distribution box for all the electronics stuff, put the battery and anchor in front of the boat for weight distribution and that was it. Works great. And 30lbs of thrust is more than enough to move the boat around and the power drain is minimal. Later, Tom |

And 30lbs of thrust is more than enough to move the boat around and the power drain is minimal. That's useful info. I've been using tea leaves to try and figure out what size to get, and the process has NOT been informative. More so than the personnel in the store, though. |

Ed Here is a link to the story: +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.j...ryID=873530 9 PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - A 17-year-old surfer in New Jersey lost a chunk of leg flesh in what is likely the state's first attack by a Great White shark in 30 years, officials said on Wednesday. New Jersey resident Ryan Horton was about 25 feet off the beach at Surf City, Long Beach Island early on Sunday afternoon when he felt a sharp pain in his ankle but didn't see what caused it. After paddling back to shore, he was taken to a hospital, Surf City Police said in a statement. Bob Schoelkopf, director of the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine, New Jersey said photos of the wound confirmed it could only have been made by a Great White. The last recorded shark attack in New Jersey was at Sandy Hook in 1975, the year of the movie "Jaws," which terrified audiences with tales of Great White attacks. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ |
Browns Lake? Burlington, WI! I kept my boat there for a few years when

I haven't seen my copy for a number of years but as I remember it the "Mclean's Encyclopedia of fishing" indicated that worlds highest concentration of great whites are actually found off the N.J. coast. A recent meeting of the Mass. Striped Bass Assoc. had a talk by a charter Captain who specializes in sharks. Three commonly caught sharks in Ma. is the porbeagle, great white, and blue. Again, If I remember correctly, two of the three that hold the Mass. record are actually larger then the IGFA record catches. They, of course, are not IGFA records because, for one reason or another, they did not meet the IGFA criteria. Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water. What's even more interesting is that the official Mass state record eclipses the IFGA record by a healthy amount if I remember correctly - something like 300 lbs or thereabouts. I wonder why the IFGA disallowed the record? Probably because it wasn't an IFGA Charter Captain or member. :) Later, Tom |

I especially like the custom stereo installation! Pretty cool huh? :) I've been thinking of installing a Jensen marine radio I have hanging around here in the boat, but I can't quite figure out where to put it. Thinking of the speakers: Are those corner benches in the stern full of flotation stuff, or what? Styrofoam. Chock a block full of styrofoam. As is the mid-ships bench and the front half bench - styrofoam. I was thinking of installing the radio in the middle bench, the two 1200 watt amps under the stern shelf and the 12 inch subwoofer under the front bench with speakers along the gunwale. What do you think? Later, Tom I think in those famous movie words parphased. "We need a bigger battery". |

:) Later, Tom Some strange rules. Friend of mine caught the largest sport caught Albacore a few years ago. 90#'s. By himself in his Grady, that did have a transom door, so he could get it in the boat. The tuna feather, had a standard double hook, but since the shanks were not welded together, no record. |

It stretches to about 1/3 it's length, retains memory of it's original length, has two, count 'em two, vinyl coated hooks on the ends. Very high tech, very handy. Later, Tom |

Speaking of high tech, it looks like my post was sent by telepathy. I wrote it, but decided not to send it after I'd read the whole thread and saw Rusty make essentially the same comment. Ah well, I probably just hit the wrong button... In particular the mounting device. Very high tech. Yeah, I've got a pair of those handy gizmos securing my gear box.
