Hey all I just purchased a '05 Bayliner 175 with the Merc 135 engine. I have
a few questions about the warranty.

The engine doesnt like to idle in gear when it cold after warmp its fine,
Should I just let it run for a few minutes to warm up or is there an
adjustment at the choke that I can do, if I do make an adjustment will this
screw with the warranty.?
( the only thing Im worried about on the warranty is the outdrive and the
electrical items on the engine)

When the throttle is at 3/4 and the boat planed out the revs are at 4500
rpm. can I put a 23 pitch prop on with out messing with the outdrive
warranty?

Last but not least. This boat has a 21 gallon fuel tank. at 3k rpm its
burning about 5 gallons an hour. does this sound about normal? if so are
there any acceptable safe ways of carrying an extra 5 gallons on gas so that
I can extend my drive time.
All in all this is a great little boat. decent speed good handling nice
ride, its just a wee bit spartan ( no radio yet and not much in ways of
storage) . But its nice to know that when we head down the river we stand a
95 percent chance of heading back up under our own power

I strongly recommend against it. You should bring the boat to a complete
stop and shut off the engine, before changing props.

Don't worry about your warrenty. The only way to void it is to not perform
normal maintenance or start making power mods. What you are talking about
in no way would void the warrenty.

Definetly sounds like your choke is out of adjustment. Try tweaking it a
little to increase rpms in gear to about 600-700.

As for the prop - won't void the warrenty but sounds like they installed the
wrong prop. Call the dealer and tell them you need a different prop as your
rpms are too high. They should swap it for free as running w/ the wrong
prop is bad.

Once you get the prop changed your fuel economy will change (to better
actually). Not sure what your speed is at 3k rpms but you should be getting
about 4 mpg at that rpm. Does that calculate right for your speed?
As for carrying extra fuel - only solution I know of is to get the plastic
cans from walmart or wherever and strap them to the swim platform. They
must be stored in a ventilated area and in the boat tends to be in the way.
On the swim platform is out of the way and you won't get any buildup of
fumes in the boat.

I have a 1950CL with the 3 liter engine. I don't think there's a safe way to
carry more fuel.
A day of wakeboarding with several adults and children and all their gear
aboard usually uses about 15 gallons of fuel: I just make sure I have a full
tank before we launch.
I usually leave the engine running with the throttle in the start detent
(not the neutral detent, and not in gear) for a couple of minutes while
parking the tow vehicle and getting everyone settled before leaving the
dock. That is just enough time for it to run smoothly at no wake speed as we
leave the launch area.

well I put the 23 pitch prop on , the tach only went to 4400 with only 2
people in it. Thats maybe 325 pounds of people, the fuel milage was still
crappy and the engine sounded like it was lugging. so now Im back with the
21 pitch prop. Does anyone know if there is a 22 pitch prop available?

Were the two props of the same design, diameter, material, brand, etc...
If your making 4400 now a 21 of the same design and everything should be at
4700.
Did you have to buy the 23 or did the dealer swap it for the 21?
If it was not the right prop to begin with the dealer should have swapped
for free.

Fuel economy should be between 3 and 4 mpg running at 3000 to 4000 rpms.

the dealer has been totally cool about this. swapped the props without
question. the props were the same make and model, just the pitch was
different.. Im thinking mayber a whale tail might help. just a thought

The only significant change you'll see by adding a hydrofoil will be that
the bow will not rise anywhere near as much on initial acceleration, you'll
get on plane faster, you'll stay on plane at slower speeds. I added one to
my 1998 1950CL years ago and it's great for wakeboarding: hardly any bow
rise, and I can stay on plane at slower speeds.
You won't see any real difference in top speed - some say you lose a couple
of MPH; and you won't see any difference in fuel economy - it'll still be a
good idea to have a full tank of gas at the start of the day.
