kicker stolen
 

Arriving home from work Friday I discovered my trolling motor missing,
apparently stolen that afternoon. If any one in the Portland OR or
Vancouver WA area comes across a 2000 Honda 15 serial # 1502265 and
wants to do the right thing please notify the Washington County
sheriff's dept. at 503-629-0111.

As odds of recovery are about zero I guess I'll need to replace it.
Yamaha has been frequently recommended lately so I'll check those out
along with the new Honda's. Any others worth a serious look?

6-10hp 4 stroke

good low speed adjustment resolution
TR-1 auto-pilot compatible

That why I carry a Deasert Eagle .50, and have my home armed better
than Fort Knox.

I also like to scare off any Usenet folks that I have severly

yokel. Hang out at the launch ramps for a while, and your kicker may
well show up. For protection, take either a gun or my X along.

There's a lot of ramps around but I'll be keeping my eyes open.

The boat has been in my side yard for over 5 years without incident
until now. Coincidently(?) Verizon had crews installing fiber optic
cable in the neighborhood the last few weeks and they had just moved on.
About a week ago my wife caught one of them coming around the side yard
(next to the boat) while she was in the back and he quickly asked her
for a glass of water. (I suspect they have their own water) Their trucks
had Washington plates and a neighbor across the street noticed a white
pick-up with Washington plates in front of my house the day the motor
disappeared. All circumstantial I know.

By the way, the Master padlock was worthless, they clipped it right off.

Back in the late 80's when I did aerial and underground line construction,
we carried large bolt cutters to cut 'support strand' wire and heavy guage
ground wire. It would make sense that the Verizon crew would have tools such
as these. See if you can find out who was on that crew....subcontractors,
Ima guessin.

Verizon was very active around here with cable work and there were
some items stolen - no breakins, just stuff out of garages, etc.

Verizon was very pro active in attempting to retrieve the items and
cooperated with the State Police which busted a theft ring centered
around Verizon out-of-state construction crews. Of course you have to
have a police department willing to pursue the issue.

Complain to the cops first, then Verizon.

For the future, check out the anti theft item that mounts over and
covers over the clamp handles. The one I have is called "fulton
outboard motor lock" which I know you can find at Iboats.com. I don't
know if it's absolutely teft-proof, but it would take more than a cable
cutter to remove it.

Forget it! If the thieves want the motor they'll get it.
Around here they use a Sawzall to cut a nice chunk
out of the transom with the motor still attached. T
hey cut the cables, wires and all.

The only way to stop em is to be there with a shotgun.
