kicker stolen

Arriving home from work Friday I discovered my trolling motor missing,
apparently stolen that afternoon. If any one in the Portland OR or
Vancouver WA area comes across a 2000 Honda 15 serial # 1502265 and
wants to do the right thing please notify the Washington County
sheriff's dept. at 503-629-0111.

As odds of recovery are about zero I guess I'll need to replace it.
Yamaha has been frequently recommended lately so I'll check those out
along with the new Honda's. Any others worth a serious look?

6-10hp 4 stroke
smooth idle
slow trolling
good low speed adjustment resolution
TR-1 auto-pilot compatible

Thanks for any help,
-rick-

That why I carry a Deasert Eagle .50, and have my home armed better
than Fort Knox.

I also like to scare off any Usenet folks that I have severly
insulted,and lied about.

Depending on where you are, it's almost certain the asshole is a local
yokel. Hang out at the launch ramps for a while, and your kicker may
well show up. For protection, take either a gun or my X along.

There's a lot of ramps around but I'll be keeping my eyes open.

The boat has been in my side yard for over 5 years without incident
until now. Coincidently(?) Verizon had crews installing fiber optic
cable in the neighborhood the last few weeks and they had just moved on.
About a week ago my wife caught one of them coming around the side yard
(next to the boat) while she was in the back and he quickly asked her
for a glass of water. (I suspect they have their own water) Their trucks
had Washington plates and a neighbor across the street noticed a white
pick-up with Washington plates in front of my house the day the motor
disappeared. All circumstantial I know.

By the way, the Master padlock was worthless, they clipped it right off.

thanks,

Back in the late 80's when I did aerial and underground line construction,
we carried large bolt cutters to cut 'support strand' wire and heavy guage
ground wire. It would make sense that the Verizon crew would have tools such
as these. See if you can find out who was on that crew....subcontractors,
Ima guessin.

Verizon was very active around here with cable work and there were
some items stolen - no breakins, just stuff out of garages, etc.

Verizon was very pro active in attempting to retrieve the items and
cooperated with the State Police which busted a theft ring centered
around Verizon out-of-state construction crews. Of course you have to
have a police department willing to pursue the issue.

Complain to the cops first, then Verizon.

Fascinating thought about the fiber optic crew and theft ring.

For the future, check out the anti theft item that mounts over and
covers over the clamp handles. The one I have is called "fulton
outboard motor lock" which I know you can find at Iboats.com. I don't
know if it's absolutely teft-proof, but it would take more than a cable
cutter to remove it.

Forget it! If the thieves want the motor they'll get it.
Around here they use a Sawzall to cut a nice chunk
out of the transom with the motor still attached. T
hey cut the cables, wires and all.

The only way to stop em is to be there with a shotgun.

Perhaps if you bathed, changed your bedsheets, and got a boat that didn't look like a derelict, complete with steel pipe in the
aluminum boom, AND learned how to behave in mixed company, a decent marina might let you dock across the harbor from it.

No surprise that you hang out in sawzall areas.

As if you were ever sober enough to hit anything...still drinking that combo of terpin hydrate, squeeze and OJ?

BTW, I set you up with a date with Karen Smith of Australia...hope you two kindred spirits are happy with each other. I'm sure you
smell alike.

No thank you. Your wife gives me all the sex I desire . . . The nice thing
about it is, after the first two inches, she was, for all intents and purposes,
a virgin.

Save your bravado for your pack of drunken, right-wing hyenas, Neal. You couldn't get laid in a Bangkok whorehouse. My wife
wouldn't get closer than a block away to a scumbag like you, and even at that, she'd be wearing a CBN suit to ward off your foul
stench.

Go play with Fritz, Robbins, Hertvik, Herring, Smithers, and all the anon rectal fissures who play footsie with you. They are your
enablers, not me.

I know who you are, I know what you are, and so does everyone else with a decent boat who wouldn't get closer than five marinas
away from you and your p.o.s. little sailbote.

Maybe with a little K-Y, you can take care of your obvious problem:

did somebody get it???

Unfortunately, they are susceptible to bolt cutters too.

I didn't know it. I figure it's easy to use and at least makes it a
little more difficult for the a$$holes. I know someone who's large,
bolted on, main engine was stolen - unbolted and taken - from their
residence. So, I guess we should also carrry insurance.

LOL!!!

Believe this or not, I know a boat shop that had a set of Merc 250
Optimax's stolen right out of their fenced yard. They were caught on
tape using a cemetary truck. :)

I have the locking bolt, takes a special key like the locks for mag wheels,
on my kicker. IT can be cut off, but not easily. Would require a hack saw
or Sawzall, as no place to get the bolt cutters on it easily.

Ain't never heard tell of such. Got a manufacturer?

They would improve it, with a special allen bolt. One with the pin in the
middle of the bolt.

Those are theft deterrents certainly, but a hell of a lot easier to
remove than you think.

Mine is harder to remove as the head is in the motor box. It is one of
those things like "The Club". Make the thief go for the next persons motor.

[email protected] June 8th 05 06:52 PM

Although I lock my kicker, the strongest deterrent is the fact it is
old and beat up. Sometimes I wish it would be stolen so the decision to
buy a new one would be forced on me. But in spite of the scraped up
cowling, it's low hours and really runs well. I think if I had a new
one, I'd use at least two different locks.

Same with my main - it's over 20 years old and I'd say to anyone who
stole it: "great, now YOU can pay for the gas that old thing sucks
down." And I'd use my insurance settlement to pay for about 20% of the
new engine 8-(
