Default Pontoon Motor Size 115 or 150hp

Looking at purchase of a new Bennington pontoon tritoon performance plus
(25" tubes with lifting strakes)hull. The boat is a 22 foot and can take up
to 175hp. What size motor should I get? I will want to get a skier out of
the water with 5 other adults on board and a four kids. Boat is rated for
14 passengers. Dealership sells 115hp on 90% but they are new at pontoon
style. I do not want to be undersized but do not want to pay $2900 for a
150hp if it is not necessary. Top speed is not an issue as long as we can
hit 25mph. Care less to run at 35mph but want to get skier out of the
water.

Go with the 150....... you'll slowly make your money back in gas savings.
(when no one is skiing). And you'll never regret underpowering it. If not
sure, ask to ski behind a 115 powered model. For that kinda money, they
outta make it happen.

Try to negotiate the 150's price - they have wiggle room.

I have a Bennington 25' tritoon, and a friend has a 22'. We both have 150s
on them, and they are just right, although I've wished for more on my 25'.
I can pull two slalom skiers up, one on a big slalom ski and one on two then
dropping one, but it's a struggle. One skier pops right up. Even one large
skier like me!

With 9 people on board, you'll definitely want the 150.

150hp no question.

I bought a 20' bennington with a 50, then had to sell the 50
and install a $$$ 90hp. I wouldn't think a 115 would EVEN
be enough for a 22' tritoon.

JR,

I would go for the most legal HP you can get.

I have never had anyone complain about too much HP after they purchased a
boat.

I would get a new Yamaha HPDI 150hp or even a 175hp.

While everyone knows outboards are for beginners, if you have to have
one, get the biggest possible.
