Default Despite the worst wishes...

Sounds like you had a great time.

And hey, the graves in N.O.? The water table has only a little to do
with the prevailing burial custom there. There are some traditional
graves, with large concrete slabs poured over the top to prevent the
dead from "rising" unexpectedly...

More to do with the philosophy of death and the demise of the body
itself. Those big white tombs in a lot of the N.O. burial grounds are
just temporary rentals. Biodies are stuffed in from all four sides, and
sometimes on a number of different layers. After a year and a day,
whatever is left of the body is shoved into a central charnel pit,
where the bones continue to morph into dust. Some of the crypts are
exculsively reserved for certain famililes, but others are not. Your
bones wind up mixed with gawd knows who, and from whatever sort of
neighborhood, for all eternity. :-) After a year and a day, the church
can rent out the same slot in the tomb to the next poor dead SOB.

Were the settler on Tangier Island also of French heritage?

You guys on the east coast- when you boat to a "primitive" island you
have to rough it by settling for transportation in "old" golf carts.
:-)

Just curious Chuck....why do you include a copy of a post in your reply when
you disagree with and refute it yet do not do the same when you respond to a
post from one of your buddies that share your beliefs?

A very strange and intentional habit.

Intentional indeed.

Good question, and here's the answer.

If a point of some kind, boating related or otherwise, is subject to
dispute or debate it is only fair to restate that point in the opposing
party's own words before preceding.

Example:

You post- "I think there are some advantages to reverse cycle AC on a
boat and would personally prefer it over a forced air or hydronic
diesel heat system."

Let's say I want to dispute or ciscuss that issue.
If I repost your exact statement, it then makes it harder for me to
twist and distort your words to my advantage.

Example, without repostsing"I think there are some advantages......and
would personally prefer"...... somebody could more easily open with,
"Why the heck do you think reverse cycle AC is the be and and end all
for everybody under all situations and who the heck do you think
you are to think that, anyway?"

Reposting an exact statement if a point is being debated or disputed
also makes it more difficult for the party who made the statement to
respond with, "You lying sack of crap, I never said any such
thing..........."

If I am only commenting on a single point in a long post, I rarely
quote the entire post.

Odd that you characterize certain individuals as "buddies that share
your beliefs".

As in: Just curious Chuck....why do you include a copy of a post in
your reply when

to a
post from one of your buddies that share your beliefs?

Odd, because very few of my buddies "share my beliefs." In fact, a
number of people I consider good friends absolutely disagree with "my
beliefs" in some important areas. Reasonable adults, secure in their
own philosophies, are not afraid to include others who have different
opinions.

I don't know and have never met Harry, same as 99% of the people
posting here. I don't know and have never met you, either. Whenever I
meet a new person I try to look for the better aspects of their
personality, and hope they are inclined to do the same with me. Harry
and I, you and I, you and Harry- none of us have any reason to be
"buddies" or "enemies". We're just
tiny little whispers in daily hurricane on the internet. "Sound and
fury signifying nothing," (Shakespeare) This is a place where ideas can
be shared, contrasted, discussed, and compared- but it's a lousy place
to become emotionally involved- either from a positive or negative
perspective.

You asked an honest question and you got an honest answer. Sorry you
can't deal with it, but that's your problem and not mine.

It's time to put you back into the "ignore" file once again. Is your
buddy, W, taking the night off? Seems to be a marked decrease in the
profane attack posts.

I see another Chuckie breakdown coming.

Time to once again run away with your ball and bat to your Mommy like you
have done numerous times in the past?

I think so.

Sorry your boating thread got off track.

Some guy who doesn't own a boat (but is hoping to hitch a ride with
somebody for MDW)
had to try to turn your boating thread into a flame war.

I'm sure the profane kop will (Not) show up to castigate the guy for
attempting to turn a boating post into a personal, OT ****ing match.

This Tangier Island sounds like it must be pretty civilized and paved.
Do they have much of a marina there, or is it an "anchor out" affair?

Starting an on topic post with:

Despite the worst wishes......of the right-wing scum here, we

returned
safely after a nice, if
chilly day, out on the Bay.

Starting a post off like that is just asking for trouble. Now who was
really wanting to make it a ****ing match? The original poster of
course.

I can't say that I disagree, but look carefully at how the attack post
evolved.
The attack poster didn't even respond to the original poster's comment,
but rather waited until
a second person participated in the thread, asked a seemingly sincere
question about posting style, and then used the answer to take off on a
tangent against the *second* poster, not the guy who made a remark
about right wingers.

Attack posting a party who did *not* make in inflammatory remark makes
the non-boater in this case at least as guilty, (in my personal
opinion), as the person who made a snotty remark about peolpe with
differing political perspectives.

Chuck seems to be one of those people who always looks for the good in
individuals. I say ...call a spade a spade.
