I assume the tag receipt is in the original owners name. If so, you will
have to have a bill of sale from that person in order to register. A bill
of sale from the person you purchased it from is meaningless as the original
owner can claim it was stolen and you have no option but to provide the boat
back to the original owner.
Did the original owner say why she would not give you a bill of sale?
You must either get a bill of sale or your money back. You may find that
you have to sue to get your money back unfortunately if the person is a
xxxx.

No suit required. Just contact the Department of Motor Vehicles. They take
an extremely dim view of fraud in vehicle transfers. Tell the person you
bought from to get the title straightened out or you go to the DMV. Been
there, got the tee shirt and the money.

So.....because you've done it in CA, you know all about the process in
Canada, and are positive it's exactly the same? Funny, it isn't even
the same between states, let alone countries. How many boat HAVE you
titled in Canada? By the way, in GA, the boat is registered through
the DNR.

In Canada you need two things (I know that because I just did it
today)

- bill of sale
- the boat licence SIGNED by the owner

If you dont have a bill of sale you can sign a form why you dont have
one, so thats no problem.

If you dont have the signed (by the owner) boat license then you can
forget it. You do NOT own this boat.

Get yout money back if he doesnt give then go through a small claims
court.

Matt
