Subject: SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN 0113
March 22, 2004 ML - 390 Subject: SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN 0113 Dear Harley-Davidson Dealer: Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Inc. has learned that certain 2001- 2003 Model Year FL Touring and Police model motorcycles, including FLHPI, FLHTPI, FLHPEI, FLHTCI, FLHTCUI and FLTRSEI-2 (2001 only), have a condition whereby the 40 Amp. main circuit breaker could open due to reasons other than for which it was designed, thereby causing an unexpected interruption of all electrical power to the motorcycle. This condition could cause a "quit while riding" situation, which could lead to a crash, thereby causing death or injury to the rider. We have voluntarily declared this a defect related to motor vehicle safety (Campaign 0113) to allow us to formally recall all affected motorcycles. The remedy of this issue is to replace the circuit breaker on the above noted vehicles. In the interest of the safety of our mutual customers and as required by law, you may sell but NOT DELIVER any affected motorcycles to your customers. A service bulletin outlining the repair and credit procedure, along with a list of affected VIN's will follow within two weeks. In accordance with Federal regulations administrated by NHTSA, Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Inc. will provide notice to all owners of record of affected products with direction to bring the vehicle in for the recall service. Sincerely, Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Inc. |

turned to the dark side. As mentioned before, when a few bad apples are left in the barrell, soon the whole barrel goes bad. Excuse me???? I have been shooting firearms since I was about 14. My dad had an old "break-your-shoulder" bolt action 12GA shotgun, and also a beautiful .308 deer rifle. I had a nice Marlin .22 rifle as a kid. I qualified as marksman on the Coast Guard's M16's in bootcamp, but failed on the old Gov't 1911-A1 .45ACP because they had my company out on the outdoor pistol range in the cold rain!! Nobody qualified that I knew of, which was stupid, but what can you do? Anyway, what do you mean about "dark side"? I don't understand.... Am I some sort of twisted, evil minded, crazed whacko, because I own a shotgun and an old ..22? Ooooo, I also own a PSE compound bow with a few razorblade broadhead arrows. I must be evil huh?!? The way the law reads in Virginia, if I want to go out and buy a gun, I can do that. No waiting periods or anything. The 2nd amendment also says I can own a gun, so I am just showing my support for gun owners and the NRA. Butch Ammon |

It puts you in the bush leagues with Florida and Texas and I'm sure...some others. Nothing wrong with owning a shotgun or two......but wouldn't you sleep better knowing your daughters might be a bit safer if the state did a through check on each firearm applicant? What's wrong with waiting a few weeks...ore even a month? Who's in that much of a hurry to go shootin'. |

If someone wants to buy a gun, they HAVE TO go through the background check before they can even think of doing anything. If they come up negative in the system..... **BUSTED** !!! My daughters know how to use my firearms and are a heck of a shot with my ..22!!! I am not worried. Butch Ammon |

What if before you posted and ran your mouth off again about things that you don't know much about, you had to fill out a form and then wait for approval for a "few weeks" or even "a month"? Wouldn't that be a good law too? Why not? |

It's hard to keep up with all the progress of the "gun nuts" and the battles won in state legislatures all around the country. Is this true?... Might be time to build a big fence along the border...sounds like America is slipping over the edge! I don't keep up with it like I probably should (being a freedom loving American and all). However I know of at least fives states that reformed or passed CC laws in 2003. Four of those states-Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico & Colorado passed "shall issue" laws regarding concealed carry. Shall issue basically means that gun owners must pass a set of stipulations in order to be issued a concealed carry permit. Alaska however, eased its laws to allow its citizens to carry concealed firearms WITHOUT a permit (Alaska is next to Canada too). Since the majority (almost all states now) have made concealed carry permits availible to the rank and file citizen the big push now is for reciprocity amongst all the states in which each state would honor the permits of the other states. Right now there is some reciprocity but it is a patchwork and not across the board. And so far the reforms, laws and increases in armed Americans have been a positive experience. Crys of returning to the "wild wild west" have not turned out to be the results of such reforms. Contrary to the naysayers, citizens can be trusted to carry firearms and to protect themselves and their families. Sorry Don, but your UN inspired hallucinations are not based on reality. Folks do have a right to protect themselves. The government is BY the people and FOR the people not against the people Don. We are the government. WE tell the government what we want it to do not the other way around. You are not any safer with stupid feel-good legislation (gun-control laws) that are useless against criminals who do not traditionally obey any laws let alone firearms related ones. I am truly sorry that you and your socialist ilk cannot grasp such simple realities and concepts Don. Cheers! |
