I just spent 3 weeks in FL visiting our grandkids.

I never saw so many boats and boat dealers and water.

Yes there is alot of water down there. Just dont go inland. SW Florida is
great for year round boating as I guess also SE Florida is. Wanna see
water? Drive to Key West.

Yea, boating and fishing is an "accepted norm" in FL. I read, every day, the
Outdoors' Best Forum Florida Fishing/Boating.

guys get to do it all year long. We do too, here in TX and you in CA..but I
am still envious.

Now, if it wasn't for five grandkids ( all here ) and a wife of 43 years (

Hey Bchbound,
Inland has its share of water too. Ever hear of Lake Ochachobee or
howabout Lake George Or lake Sanford or Orange Lake or... or... St. Johns
River? Crystal River, St Mary's River, Suwuannee River? Of course with more
coastline then any other 2 states, off shore has its merits too!

Yep we got a lot of water in Florida!

N.H. (the state where I live) has 17 miles of coastline. For comparison,
does anyone know how many miles of coastline Fla. has?

I just saw a tourism site that says 8426 miles. I assume that is guessing about
the 10,000 islands and the Keys where measuring is more art than science.

The whole concept of measuring coastline comes down to what process is used.

Surely, if we measured EVERY inlet; bay; and minor undulation on ANY
shoreline, one could come out with a lot of different numbers. I remember
some study that measured a lake's shoreline by using one foot increments,
and contrasted that measurement with one measuring one mile increments. The
differences ( for the same shoreline) was amazing. RichG

Maine has a large tidal difference, so it can effect the amout of shoreline,
Fla. is about 2 ft and really doesn't effect the amount of shoreline..
