Ok, I'll take a shot at this...
I can only base this on my absolutely minimal experience with an old Johnson '55. I would pull it apart again and re-check what you did. Water should be flowing well out of the pee hole. Water coming out between the motor and the foot should be no big deal, as long as you're getting good flow at the pee hole. Probably you didn't get a good seal when you reattached the lower end and water is escaping through that seal. However, you NEED to find out why oil is mixing with the water and coming out the pee hole. Did you re-grease the shifter shaft going to the foot? Also, open the bottom screw in the foot. Oil will flow slowly out of it if you only take out the bottom screw. Oil coming out should NOT be milky white but oil colored. i.e. the same color as when you put it in. If you're seeing steam, I'm guessing that the motor is heating up to much and there's not enough water flow to cool it down. This is a problem and leads back to the first step I mentioned...pull it back apart and re-check what you did. Hope this helps, Jim Snak Head wrote: If anyone can Help, Please Do. My mechanic sez: "The only place oil can come from is the lube in the lower unit." Check to make sure you have the waterpump inpeller and shaft seals installed correctly. The other option is pretty grim. You have a hole in the "pee tube" and need to replace the lower unit housing. You can check this by looking at the oil in the foot. If there is water present, you have a real problem. -- Capt. Frank __c \ _ | \_ __\_| oooo \_____ ~~~~|______________/ ~~~~~ www.home.earthlink.net/~aartworks "Jim" wrote in message ... and I thank You also Capt.Frank ...
NO sign of oil in the foot, I drained it. I am gonna RePull Da Foot some more Again ! hopefully I will find an error on my part, Seal wise. This was my first attempt at pullin' Da Foot an installing the water pump kit. BTW, the barrel of water I had the foot in had NICE layer of oil Floating around. At least there was no water in Da Foot ! thanks ALL some more. I will let Y'all know K |

One more possibility about the oil in your cooling water discharge -
You say you had the motor in a barrel (not using Mickey Mouse ears)? Your normal exhaust will contain oil that has been mixed with the gasoline, and not having been completely burned gets passed out with the exhaust. Soon the barrel gets a good oil slick going, and the cooling water intake instead of sucking up good clean water, is sucking up a oil / water mixture that then shows up as a milky discharge at the pee hole. The does not explain the steam part - that has to be another problem. You might check the thermostat to see if it is corroded shut and unable to open like it should. I have run into outboards here in the southern Chesapeake that overheated because of corroded shut thermostats. "Snak Head" wrote in message ... and I thank You also Capt.Frank ...
