Need to rebuild / replace the alternator on my glastron. Am somewhat confused
when looking for a replacement. Its a Volvo engine but the customer number on
the prestolite alternator refers to OMC # 3853853 . What is the deal is it
volvo,OMC,or do I just need to get a 51 amp 12vN. I have found sites that say
fits OMC,Cobra. Better to rebuild or replace ?

A rebuild is usually a safe bet - rebuild your original. Get it to any
reputable "auto-electric" shop.

Those alternators rarely go bad. they don't get enough use for the
bearings to go out. what I have found with them, is that either
they've been submurged and are badly corroded, or the connections to
the unit itself are corroded, or they need a new voltage regulator
installed.

Repair.

it's alot cheaper.

I had a 42' Glastron many years ago, but traded it for my 54'
Zimmerman.
