Default Tracker Jon boats

I would like to buy a Tracker Topper 10' Jon boat and on the website it says
that max person weight is 314 lbs and max hp is 3. I do not know that much
about boats so someone who knows about them or has one please let me know if
that is pretty accurate. My main fishing buddy and I go about 200 lbs each
plus our gear, also he has a 9.9 hp engine, not sure what make) that we were
going to use, is that too much? If so, what would be the max I could safely
put on it? Thanks in advance.

Boat is not big enough for you. 400 lbs plus gear (50 lbs or more) is way
too much for that little boat. And 3 hp max means it. That boat is
basically designed for a trolling motor on a small pond.

With both of you and your stuff in the boat and you come up to a boat wave
you are going to get swamped.

Plus marine police will give you a ticket for being overweight and
overpowered. Here in Alabama that goes as points on your drivers license.

Bump up to a 14' boat.

200 lb you + 200 lb buddy + 50 lbs gear = 450 lbs + 75 lb motor = 525
lbs

Max safe "person weight" is 314 lbs. Max engine weight equivalent is 3 hp.
If you load the aforementioned items into that boat, make sure to take life
jackets 'cuz yer gonna need em...unless the engine rips the transom off and
plops into the lake before you even launch it.

Point blank. Look at a bigger boat. This one will be unpleasant at best
and downright dangerous more likely with the load and motor you are talking
about. I know Waco makes some nice middle weight boats that might be in
your range. Tracker tendss to want to sele their bigger jon boats as
packages with all the fixings, but they also sell them bare.

I have gone swimming for a variety of reasons at one time or another, and
you just don't want to unless it was already part of your plan.

Safely? You and a couple of poles, box of lures and maybe a trolling
battery and a trolling motor.

Get a bigger boat - something in the 14/16 foot range.

Look into a Lowe 14' boat.

You have more gear, people and HP than that 10' can handle.

Here's a 14' Jon boat from Lowe.

The following is a similar model to what I use with a Johnson 9.9HP, 1467WT

Ignore it. I put an Evinrude 250 on a 10' Tracker many years ago, and
it ran fine. In fact, it hit 100 mph once.

That is amazing considering Evinrude never made a 250.
