Your priorities are seriously out of order. You are obviously letting family
and work obligations interfere with what's important. If this is connected
with your wife's objections to spending more time on the boat, explain that
a mistress with a motor is preferable to the other kind.

Is there any possibility you can rearrange some priorities and get out on
the boat, say, 6 to 8 times a year. I know that's still not many days for
something that is as expensive as a boat - but then again how many
activities in your life to you "love" that much? How many relax you in that
same way?

What is is that prevents you from spending more days? I'd rather focus on
creative ways to get yourself out on the boat more than on what else you can
use the money for.

Good luck.

Find a buddy who has a boat and could use a crew once in a while.
Keep a small 14' aluminum c/w 9.9 hp outboard and trailer for occasional use
on a lake

Funny that - I just went through this with my antique truck.

After four years of restoration work and five years of driving it, the
last couple of years I've maybe gotten out and about in it once or
twice a year.

Total waste of a good truck.

I agonized for six months about selling it - finally sold it for a
goodly amount - the fellow who bought it is treating it right -
everbody wins.

But, as somebody once said, I feel your pain. ;)

And I have a new small boat radar for my Ranger. ;)

Jam,
Think about selling half interest in your boat, or perhaps renting it
out to qualified people, if you're going to rent, check with your insurance
carrier about liability coverage..

Two possibilities come to mind:

1/ Circumstances beyond your control have conspired against you -
entirely possible, it happens all the time. If so, is that going to change
in the foreseeable future?
2/ You only say you love it, but you don't really, not on a deeper level,
or you would go out on it more. Maybe you love the concept. Maybe you have
really good times on it, and happy memories but are very aware of the work
involved as well (, arranging trips, calling friends, travelling to the
boat, buying groceries, cleaning, maintenance, winterizing...), and the
balance doesn't work out favorably. Maybe lots of things. Figure out the
maybes and you might answer your own question.

You could write a coy letter to a boating newsgroup and hope someone
emails you with an offer! ;)
