My wife drove over the 'new' bridge a while after it happened and saw
the wreckage. Although Keith's is the best selling brand here, it's not
my favourite. If it was Labatts Blue or Moosehead, I would have dragged
my bicycle out of the basement and raced to the scene.
Funny, the dimwits who look after out two harbour bridges just decided
to allow very large trucks to use the bridge.Due to past concerns with
roadway detoriation, and structural strength, the largest were forced to
make the 15 or so mile trip around Bedford Basin to travel from
Dartmouth/Halifax/return.

Don,
It is Labatt Blue, not Labatts Blue. ;)

Sorry, I just couldn't help myself.

I don't recall ever having a Keith's. I still like Corona, Dos Equis,
and Red Stripes. Great boat beers.

When I am on "The Boat" a very cold Labatt Blue is just paradise! ( it's NOT
Labatt's or Labatts )
Down in Brownsville, Texas, out fishing by South Padre Island, I like a very
cold Dos Equis.

I've only had a Labatt Blue once. I was in Canada, actually, in Thunder
Bay. In January.

I started drinking Red Stripe in 1962 after seeing Dr. No.

Amazing brand loyalist, I am!

Hi Harry:

Boating in Thunder Bay, in January, would have to be Ice Boating!

There is a great ski area there. Lock Lomond.

You are again proving your ignorance, as well as your infatuation with
me. Your petty and childish name calling certainly doesn't help your
credibility. Now, let's recap. I've given you the Labatt website,
chocked FULL of information about Labatt, NOT Labatt's. Then, I went as
far as to CONTACT them, and further proved you didn't know what you
were talking about, yet you STILL can't get it through your head. There

mental capacity to see that they are wrong. Now, quit stalking me and

Now, you can send Fritz and Calif Bill to the Labatt website. You can
also CONTACT a Labatt representitive about the Labatt vs. Labatt's
issue, and show them the official reply, even have them look at a
bottle, and they STILL don't have the grey matter to figure out they
are wrong!

All right...when we were young we just referred to Labatt, Molson etc
collectively as 'Montreal beer'. In those days Montreal beer cost more
than the local stuff...(Olands, Keiths, Schooner, Moosehead, Alpine etc).

Those values are probably instilled by the military. I bet most of the

When I drank, I thought Moosehead was the best beer on this side of the
Atlantic. When in Europe, I loved Pilsner Urquell (the export version) from
Czechoslovakia. In Czechoslovakia, Pilsner Urquell is atrocious, and the export
version couldn't be bought.

Those were the good ole days.

Lablatt, Molson and Moosehead are too similar to Budweiser, the only good
beer I had in Canada was a beer called "I P A" it stands for India Pale
Ale. It is a great ale with a very hoppy flavor.

than the local stuff...(Olands, Keiths, Schooner, Moosehead, Alpine etc).

When I drank, I thought Moosehead was the best beer on this side of the
Atlantic. When in Europe, I loved Pilsner Urquell (the export version)
from
Czechoslovakia. In Czechoslovakia, Pilsner Urquell is atrocious, and the
export
version couldn't be bought.

Those were the good ole days.

Never got there. It's on the list of places to go. I'm thinking of a trip to
Nord Kapp, Norway, by motorcycle. It's something the Guzzi riders in the
Nederlands do every few years, in the summer of course.

Ireland has some of the most friendly people you will ever find. Driving
was a challenge......using a left handed stick :-)
Best seafood I ever had was in Kinsale, on the southwest coast. It is neat
to be driving down the road, and be able to stop and wander through the
ruins of an old castle of abbey in the middle of a cow pasture.

Now, you can send Fritz and Calif Bill to the Labatt website. You can
also CONTACT a Labatt representitive about the Labatt vs. Labatt's
issue, and show them the official reply, even have them look at a
bottle, and they STILL don't have the grey matter to figure out they
are wrong!

Well Mr. Basskisser, I don't have to send them to the web site of the Labatt
Company. I know for sure that the correct name of the beer is "Labatt
Blue" because a very good friend of mine, ( the next boat to mine at my
Marina ) is an account executive for Labatt Company and I had mentioned this
groups' difference of opinion and he told me the correct answer. "Labatt
Blue" no " s " in there at all!

I stopped drinking Moosehead after they closed their local brewery
across the harbour. Now all their beer comes from Saint John in New
Brunswick. A couple of years ago they actually sold their interest in
our local QMJHL hockey team, the 'Halifax Mooseheads'. They still have
some sponsorship arrangement as their logo is on the front of the team's
jerseys. http://mooseheads.ns.sympatico.ca/

Nice history lesson, the kind one can remember.

IPA will never be confused with Budweiser, it is a beer with some flavor to
it. If you get Sierra Nevada in Halifax check out their IPA, even a little
more hops than the Canadian IPA I had.

Jeez, here we go. Sorry, but I.P.A. is a TYPE of beer, not a brand
name. There are many, many thousands of brands of I.P.A.'s. Try Sierra
Nevada Pale Ale, one of the best, and has won many awards. By the way,
Labatt is nothing like the swill commonly known as Budwieser. Molson
Golden Ale is close to it, though. Moosehead isn't a favorite of mine,
too skunky.

India Pale Ale, also known as "IPA" is a type of beer. There was a
microbrewer in Canada, whose name for their Indian Pale Ale was "I P A".
Wish I could remember the name of the microbrewer, but I think I killed that
brain cell drinking an I P A.

There are IPA's that do that right here, but again, they'll say
something like
Red Hook
IPA
etc. Which, by the way, is a pretty decent one, other than the one I
brew, which is a Sierra Nevada clone.

How true, Jim! The official response is that in 1973, they decided to
drop the "s" because of their widening sales, it gets confusing in
different languages.

I have never been a fan of Wheat or Whit Beers, they normally are too
"fruity" from the orange or lemon peels and the coriander used by most
brewers.

They are definitely better than a Bud Lite.

so-so wheat beer is just that, GOOD wheat beer, however, is a great
experience. Commercially, try Blue Moon, love the stuff. I too, hate it
when they use too much lemon or some such to mask the taste of a so-so
beer. But, give Sierra Nevada Wheat Beer a try, you'll be pleasantly
surprised. I liked it so well that after trying some, I found a cloned
recipe and made my first wheat beer. I didn't brew any wheat beer
before, because like you I didn't find them to be anything exceptional.

Sorry...I'm not from Quebec, nor have I ever lived there.

Labatt Breweries bought local beer maker, Olands, in 1971 and now

Sorry...my beer drinking is very limited. I tend to stick with something
I like. Got sick so many times as a teenager on warm beer that I am very
fussy now. Up till the 70's beers were very regional...it cost more to
drink brands from Montreal or Ontario and since we are a bit isolated
here with a small population and high shipping costs. Now the choice is
much better but I stick with my 'Blue'. I have never heard of the brand
I.P.A. but that means nothing.....lots of regional beers produced from
Newfoundland to British Columbia.

He he...so Me Again...you were just testing me.
I thought I'd better look through the Microbreweries here in Atlantic
Canada, and what do I see from the old Moosehead plant in
Dartmouth...taken over by 'Maritime Breweries'
http://tinyurl.com/3p5sz
note: in the last number of years, everyone & his dog are brewing beer
on site now. Reminds me of a letter that one of the Boston 'lace hanky'
crowd sent back home while visiting here in the 1700s
He reported that there were about 1000 houses in the town with 100
licensed to sell liquor, plus another 100 unlicensed doing the same.
He said it seemed that the business of half the populace was to sell
liquor and the other half to drink it.
Ah...those uppity New Englanders.....!
