With all the seriousness and politics lately, I thought I would share
some great stuff going on with our boat this winter in preparation for
summer. I'm totally excited. We are tranforming our 1986 Carver 26'
flying bridge this winter. After several years of trouble-free
ownership and the endorsement of our GREAT marine mechanic (God love
him!), I'm confident the vital organs of the boat are 100%. It's time
to move on the the fun stuff!

I'm having new snap-in indoor/outdoor marine berber carpet cut for the
aft cockpit & flying bridge (I'm having a snap-on section made to fit
the swim platform for dockside entertaining). My wife's
decorator/upholsterer is re-doing the entire interior: carpet, drapes,
v-berth cushions, upholstery, and we're converting the tiny 4-person
dinette to a "U" shaped ultraleather setee. I'm a former trim
carpenter, so the conversion should look professional. We ripped off
the blue and gold fabric patterns from the large 2004 Formulas we saw
at the Chicago Boat Show. They're beautiful, somewhat marine-looking,
and not too gaudy. We've already put in all new halogen lighting w/
frosted glass shades.

The countertops are being refinished to give them a Corian-type
appearance. I pulled the countertop 2 burner range (the one we never
use) & replaced it with a single burner contemporary flat glass style
to give more counter space and a cleaner look after the counter
refinishing. While I was taking out the 2 burner cooktop, I sank the
micro into the lower cabinet accessible by the lower cabinet doors, so
it's now hidden.

There is also new Sunbrella for the bridge & aft storage cover, new
aft cockpit & bridge biminis, and I'm even having little matching
elastic Sunbrella slipcovers made to slip over the ends of the trumpet
horns, deck hatch, remote spot, and our burgee flagstaff.

Bring on summer! Anybody else got a winter project going on?

Wow - well, it sounds like you've got yourself a new boat!!

I'm waiting for good weather to put the new transom in the '68
Chris*Craft Corsair I am putting back into service as a spare inshore
boat. The hull work has been completed and once the transom is
installed, things will really speed up.
