If the Saudis help us get rid of Dubya by keeping fuel prices high while
preventing economic recovery, I'd be happy to pay $2.50 a gallon for my
twin 454 gas hogs all summer long.

Imagine that! A democrat hoping for lousy economic conditions so that his
party can benefit from them. You guys are a sick, demented bunch.

It could be worse. If we had elected Captain Planet (Al Gore), he
would have implemented carbon taxes to save us from the global warming
myth and we'd be paying over $3.00/gallon now.

Nice recovery you got going, Dubya...

With the price of fuel, there will have to be car pools to the polls.

$1.65 today for regular. Thanks, Dubya.

I guess that's a matter of opinion. I can't imagine anything worse
than the smirking chimp in chief we've got running the show now, but
it appears about 47% of the population don't agree.

Yup, it's just opinion. No one's minds will change here. I don't
have to imagine anything worse. I lived through 8 years of worse.

No way to prove or disprove that opinion.

I don't have to prove it. I'm just going by what Al Gore said. He
strongly supported the Kyoto Treaty, which would have required
extremely high fuel taxes in order to reduce fuel consumption to the
required targets. Along with those high prices, what's left of our
manufacturing would have followed the cheap energy to China and
elsewhere. Why, because Kyoto didn't place any limitations on the
"developing" nations' energy use. If you accept the global warming
theory, then you have to admit that carbon emissions are bad no matter
what the country of origin. Kyoto was an attempt to level the
economic playing field more than an environmental treaty.

myth

What part of the global warming situation do you think is a myth, and
why?

and we'd be paying over $3.00/gallon now.

IMO, the best thing that could happen is $5.00 a gallon gas, with
$4.95 of that consisting of taxes.

I'll never understand the logic that says that if a corporation sells
something that people want and the corporation makes a lot of money,
it's evil, but if government seizes even more money, it's wonderful.

Even at our appointed presidents

Oh give it a rest already.

pace of increased spending, we could balance the budget.

It'll never happen, both parties spend more than they take in. I'd be
all for reduced spending to balance the budget.

And, as an
added bonus, we could starve the very people who finance middle
eastern terrorists.

I suppose every SUV and recreational boat owner is guilty of
supporting terrorism because of their fuel consumption. Nonsense.
Where's your proof? Besides, how would impoverishing people make them
not want to kill us?

The only problem with that being it would involve
some short term self sacrifice from the American consuming public.

I don't mind sacrifice if it makes sense. Hell, I work for a living.
I sacrifice my wages until about the end of May every year, just to
pay my taxes. That's a sacrifice. You haven't explained how
crippling our economy for the sake of an unproven theory would provide
any benefit.

at 363,000, more than the 345,000 expected by Wall Street and 6,000

As Paul Harvey says..."and now, for the rest of the story":

Other numbers suggested a mild improvement in the jobs market. The number of
workers drawing unemployment benefits for more than a week fell by 23,000 to
a 2.5-year low of not quite 3,100,000.

Yeah, the dumphead in the White House didn't bother to push for an
extension of unemployment benefits.
