First-time unemployment claims for the first full week of February were
at 363,000, more than the 345,000 expected by Wall Street and 6,000
higher than the previous week.

As Paul Harvey says..."and now, for the rest of the story":

Other numbers suggested a mild improvement in the jobs market. The number of
workers drawing unemployment benefits for more than a week fell by 23,000 to
a 2.5-year low of not quite 3,100,000.

Nice recovery you got going, Dubya...

With the price of fuel, there will have to be car pools to the polls.

Well, guys, our armed forces have a few openings. I'd think a good many of our
unemployed could get employed right quick if they want. Of course, as always,
a HS diploma is always useful. Lack of an arrest record helps, too. Oops, how
about that constant random drug testing? The pay is not exactly handsome but
there is a hell of a good benefit package.

The downside is the danger, of course. Constant difficult training is not
always fun. The family separation problems is very difficult to cope with.

But, it's a great life for those who want to serve and do meaningful things and
have one hell of a good time earning decent pay after a couple of years.

Indeed, the military is the employer of last resort...but you have to
want to go out and do really stupid things if ordered to do so by an
incompetent like Dubya. And you might get killed in the process.

You might end up doing something meaningful. Maybe.

Geez...it was a $1.62 in June, 2000. You're gonna whine about a three cent
increase in 4 years?

But, what was it in February of 2000? It can hardly be called whining,
when you, like the rest of BushCo, spin like that! You just pick what
statistics you choose, huh? Just remember, that can be done in
reverse, too. Would you like an example?

If you want to talk June 2000, the peak average week in June 2000
national average of all grades all formulations was the week of June 19,
2000 at $1.711. It's currently $1.681 and trending up. It was only
$1.509 mid December 2003.

Peak national average week in Feb 2000 for all grades all formulations
was $1.458 and trending up. First week in March 2000 was $1.539 and
peak week for March 2000 was $1.569.

Basically, it hasn't really changed much in the past 4 years especially
in inflation adjusted dollars and considering any increases in the state
taxes on gasoline.

Heck, here in Michigan in june of 2000 I was paying $2.29 a gallon for regular
87 octane so in 4 years the price has dropped .69 since I paid $1.60 today when
I filled up.
