Another approach is to ask insurance or yacht finance folks. And this I'd have to strongly disagree with. I find this group doesn't really have a clue. Boat US's policy on surveyor recommendations had mostly to do with who would send the $50 or so to be added to the list yearly. Some of the least competent surveyors I know of were included in the Boat US group and the best not. The main reason being the least competent needed any referral they could get and the $50 to Boat US was worth the couple of surveys it could generate in a year. Good surveyors consistently stay booked and don't need the Boat US referrals. Just my opinion. ============================== I'm sure there are some issues here and there but Boat US is not the only player in this game. The finance folks in particular have a very strong interest in not taking wooden nickles or white elephants as collateral. |
