Hi Jim, Have you been to Paris in the last few years? The wife and I went in 2001 for a few days, and and the inhabitants were just plain rude to us. We left 6 days early and went to England. I take it your father was on Gold Beach on D-Day. God bless him. If, he is still around, tell him "Thanks" for me. My father was in the 9th division. A combat photographer. Utah beach I think. He passed away in '96, but left behind a lot of photos, and memories. -- Capt. Frank Hopkins www.home.earthlink.net/~aartworks "Jim Carter" wrote in message le.rogers.com... "Capt. ( snip ) I have to disagree that the French hate Americans. My father, who landed on the Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944 as a member of the Second Canadian Army is being invited back by the French Government, for the 60th anniversary of this historic landing. He was also invited back, by the Dutch Government for the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Holland. My father remembers our allies, the American soldiers, being welcomed by the French as well as by the Belgians and the Dutch, during these ceremonies. He is looking forward to renewing the friendships he made with the American Soldiers he met over there during the war, and with the French citizens who have invited him to their homes.
