Shortly after we first moved to the Jax area, I visited the Jax Beach fishing pier (which now, sadly, is gone, thanks to many hurricanes), and there were photos on the wall of the snack snop showing all sorts of huge fush caught right here, including a 700+pound shark. Right off the beach. Later, I learned there were always lots of sharks right off the beach, though huge ones were rare. And yet there were relatively few shark attacks. Maybe we aren't that tasty! IIRC, there is a shark migration where, literally, schools of sharks migrate just off the Florida beaches. We may not be that tasty, but, personally, I don't want to be the morsel that educates a shark's palate. ;-) |
