Halliburton: Part of the Axis of Evil?

Harry, have you heard or or read the book
Confessions of an Economic Hit Man by John Perkins?

The gist is: Government, business, and the world-banks are run by
a group of people with similar self-interests and that they activly
manipulate events for their own benefits.

I'm not sure I fully belive his theory and that even if it was true
I'm not fully convinced it is all a bad thing or that there are other
better ways of doing business. And I think the book cold be written
better - giving more substance. But still, it's an easy and though
provoking read.

It's called Synergy of Purpose and is a very valid psychological and
economic concept.

No, I haven't seen that book, but there's little doubt of collusion
between government and industry in the Bush Administration to control
and manipulate in order to serve their common self-interests, which do
not include the interests of ordinary citizens.

You mean like Global Crossing and Terry McAuliffe during Clinton's reign?

Or the massive and pervasive fraud throughout the entire telecommunications
industry - which Clinton and Magaziner KNEW OF and did nothing about?

Or the huge screw job perpetrated upon the public in the form of the
IAHC/IANA/et.al. that Clinton's crew hand-engineered?

There were tens of millions of working class people who were butt****ed by
Clinton and his cronies when the chickens came home to roost, their
retirement accounts destroyed and their jobs gone.

My, how hypocritical you are.

Everything you've said is true, but keep something in mind: Halliburton is
playing with fire in places where more Americans will probably lose their
lives to support their business dealings. You know that.

Yeah, dammit, all that money should have gone to either Republicans or
to fund Ken Starr's interminable Whitewater/Monica investigation!

Or the massive and pervasive fraud throughout the entire
telecommunications
industry - which Clinton and Magaziner KNEW OF and did nothing about?

Largely because that fraud was being perpetrated by massive campaign
donors (to both sides, it's true).

Or the huge screw job perpetrated upon the public in the form of the
IAHC/IANA/et.al. that Clinton's crew hand-engineered?

???

???

I thought his sins were pretty much limited to getting an illicit
blowjob... now you say he performed prodigious feats of buggery?

Please explain... while you're at it, explain how putting Social
Security retirement accounts into the same type of shell game is going
to "save" anybody at all (other than Republican beneficiaries of the
massive campaign donations that will accrue).

My, how hypocritical you are.

Not really, just that some of us are not blinded by psychotic rage
against Billary.

Hey now, what difference does that make? Those people would have
probably died in traffic accidents anyway if they stayed home. You just
don't appreciate how increasing Halliburton profits contributes to the
strength & security of America!

I've no problem Synergy of Purpose. Of course there are going to be
similarities
of purpose and goal between various businesses, governments, and
individuals.
The question is whether what some of these people are doing is wrong --
either
by US Law, the laws of the countries we're dealing with, international law,
or (mostly) from a moral standpoint.

In the book the author makes is know that HE feels that some of the tactics
used
are wrong. My biggest complaint with the book is that while he makes is
clear that
HE thinks ist's wrong, he makes very little attempt to convince the reader
that these
tactics should be considered wrong by the standards of any laws or morals
other than
his own. And he doesn't even go into why he things it's wrong - other that
to state that
what has happened and that he thinkgs it's wrong.

Again, it's not the "Synergy" part that is bothersome. Synergy can be a
great thing. It's
the specific "Purpose" part that may, in this case, be wrong. And if the
purpose is wrong
then the "synergy" part -- the fact that a large number of very powerful
people and
institutions are all pursuing this same purpose -- just makes it *more*
troubling.
