In article , says... As a conservative's conservative who does vote in the United States You are unique. If truly a conservative, you're among a handful I've witnessed with the ability (and propensity) to be self deprecating. I honestly thought you were left of center based on your (very entertaining) posts and thought awareness of self was an exclusively left thing. Clearly, I was wrong. Unless you're yanking our rodes. jps No, I'm a conservative, but apparently not a 21st Century Republican Conservative. I voted for Bush the last time out. It was difficult for me because I didn';t trust him much and I didn't think he was overly smart. I would have preferred McCain. I have a lot of problems with the way Bush has turned out, especially in his budget-busting and in his foreign policy but he also makes me nervous with his expanion of police powers. No true conservative wants to see police powers expanded in the kind of democracy we have had until now. Frankly I just don't trust Bush. I don't know what I will do this fall. Hold my nose and vote for Bush or not vote for president or, gasp, vote for the democrat, if he turns out to be a reasonable middle of the road type? I wish a true thinking conservative would enter the races, but Bush surely has the GOP nomination. Maybe we need viable third and fourth parties. |
