If LeMay's policies would have been implemented, then today there'd be
a
unified Korea, we'd have won the Vietnam War, and Castro wouldn't have
survived the Cuban missile crisis. Of course, the World probably would
have ended sometime in the 70's when he launched an all-out pre-emptive
strike against the Soviets...but nobody's perfect.

Regardless, his strategy for blasting Japanese cities into oblivion is

won the war for us.



The war against the Japanese was won before we dropped the nukes.

But the Japanese would not surrender. Took 2 bombs to make them change
their mind. They still would not surrender after the first.
