SNIP Of course, this is the fundamental problem with your border security: it's keeping honest folks like Don and I (who might spend money down there!) out, but is doing nothing to counter terrorism. Ya know, I hear this kind of crap all day from the likes of you, Gould, Harry, and the rest, can you please elaborate on this one statement, and please give some examples, proof, or is is just more of your endless political rubbish? If a person has the proper identification, there is no problems boating across the borders between Canada and the USA. I enjoy visiting my American friends and border security is no problem for those who have a Nexus Card. Jim Carter "The Boat" Bayfield, Ontario, Canada. |

Do you suppose the terrorists just get in line at the border crossings? Our border with Canada is too long to partrol, and much of it is mountainous wilderness. It isn't like trying to defend the perimeter of Vatican City. Heck, I could sneak into Canada. And back. Think what a terrorist with just a minimum amount of training could do? You want to enter the US from Canada? Come by pleasure boat during the busy summer cruise season and put up a courtesy flag. It would take US Customs days, if ever, to figure out you hadn't cleared customs. Stay out of the resort marinas and odds are good you would *never* be questioned. As it is, only a small percentage of boats are actually inspected when they do report to customs. A guy could have a dozen terrorist criminal *******s concealed in a medium size boat and have a 60-80 percent chance of getting through untouched. Terrorist criminal *******s will take the easiest opportunity to get into the US. It's like basketball. You double or triple team the guy you think is most likely to score against you, and that only takes the pressure off somebody else instead. |

What prompted all the security against the sharks? Had there been a massive
shark attack in that pool before? Had other sharks threatened to enter the same pool? Did we catch sharks that had entered the pool, but detained them before they did some damage? Were the sharks sent to the pool by other countries? Some sick, twisted, criminal ******* once threw a shark into the pool. A single, tragic incident in the entire history of the fictional little town. The city fathers used the incident as an excuse to extend police powers into all sorts of areas not particularly related to securing the pool. The city government bloated to unheard of proportions, and the shark attack was cited as the reason. The little city even began annexing a number of other communities so that the other areas could be more effectively policed. In the end, somebody threw a rattlesnake instead of a shark. There well may be additional attacks. It is the nature of terrorists to strike where they are unexpected- to cut people down during innocent, routine, daily activities. Until we become a total police state, with everybody watched absolutely all the time, we remain vulnerable to attacks from quarters we would currently consider low risk. When we do become a total police state, the terrorists will have carried the day- they will have caused America, as we know it, to self-destruct. If and when the criminal *******s stirke again, it will be where we least expect it- not where we are most prepared. Unless, of course, the preparations are ineffective window dressing. The only thing more frightening than being attacked from somewhere you didn't expect it would be a highly successsful attack through the one or two areas where the public had been lulled into believing we were well prepared. |

Let me think....is it possible the geese were making that trip long before
dentists were poluting the local waterways in Florida?? I'd bet on the geese. NOYB wrote in message link.net... *ONE* stinkin' pelican!? Are you sure it wasn't a loony bird? Do you know how many Canadian geese permanently leave Canada and head to the US every year? BTW--keep your damn geese up there...'cause their **** is polluting the water in our parks. "Don White" wrote in message ... What? Even your 'Brown Pelicans' are trying to get away from your repressive regime. One landed here and a local vet is taking care of it until we ship it back to Miami. Darn shame......bird has more sense than a lot of 'good 'ole boys'. Chuck,
I'd agree with you that putting up a wall around America, instituting an Alert System, passing the Patriot Act, fingerprinting all non-Citizens, etc. would be a waste of time...*IF* we didn't also have a policy of going into the countries in the Middle East and tossing out the governments that support the terrorists. That plan works for me. What is *your* plan? "Gould 0738" wrote in message ... What prompted all the security against the sharks? Had there been a massive shark attack in that pool before? That plan works for me. What is *your* plan? What would you propose we do about Islamic terrorists who were born in and resided continuously in places like England, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Colombia, the Phillippines, Indonesia, Chechnya, Jersey City, Cinncinnati, Buffalo, Boca Raton, Bluefield (WV) and Old Forge (NY)? Make sure you have just one answer which applies equally to all the places listed. This way, the places that have no value to you are treated the same as Boca. We wouldn't want our "little brown brothers" to be mistreated just because you say so. (That was Teddy Roosevelt's term for the Phillippinos). |
