I guess the words "Now I would never suggest such a thing" somehow escaped
you Chuck.

Not at all. They were evaluated in context, immediately before you then
suggested "such a thing".

Each time you leave the NG, (Dennis Compton, "Jim", and etc), you are no
different when you return. Ever sell that little boat you had up on the Great
Lakes? The one on which you logged about 15 hours a year? Still hanging out on
"real" boating NG's elsewhere, and just coming here (as you previously stated)
to dump your trash?

Lets call the subject "The Bush Administration Wants Your Almanacs"
then post a story, (probably copyrighted) with no attribution , that
says absolutely nothing about the government wanting to take almanacs.

And nobody has said that possessing an almanac proves you're a
terrorist.

Of course if someone with a higlighted almanac had blown up a landmark
building landmark building, bridge, or dam last week, you would have
been screaming about how the Bush admisitration's justice department
overlooked obvious evidence.

Harry, I know you don't believe your own bull****, why should the rest
of us?

Here you go, echoes for brains:

I have snipped the rest of your out of context crap. Showing me a
dozen one liners from news articles does notback up your implication
that FBI is going to kick down anyone's door to see if they have
almanac on the coffee table. supporting your point. Even your
careful placing of ellipses doesn't seem to help you. "Drop the
almanac and put your hands up!" A catchy bull**** headline... of
course reading the articles will reveal that possessing an almanac
will hardly draw black helicopters to your rooftop.

How about this from Associated Press -

.... [The FBI] urged [police] officers to watch during searches,
traffic stops and other investigations for anyone carrying almanacs,
especially if the books are annotated in suspicious ways ...

....The FBI noted that use of almanacs or maps may be innocent, "the
product of legitimate recreational or commercial activities." But it
warned that when combined with suspicious behavior — such as apparent
surveillance — a person with an almanac "may point to possible
terrorist planning."...

Exactly what part of this says that possessing an almanac will mean
that the FBI assumes you are a terrorist? You're full of **** Harry.
You know it. If I am to believe some of the things you have said in
the past, I assume you've made at least part of your living shoveling
bull****.

You and Harry went to the same seminar? You take quite a leap going
from Harry's bull**** to a police state.

I'll assume that you share political positions with Harry (I hesitate
to call them political "beliefs" as I don't think he really believes
in them). And from there I would guess that you are not really
concerned about the existance of a police state, but rather you hate
that "your side" isn't running it at the moment.

If you've read any of Rick's responses you'd probably not be so quick to
judge him a partisan. Seems like his opinions are pretty well founded
and reasonably earned.

I offered an assumption - my words were "I'll assume..." I have not
claimed to know any *facts* about Rick.

And at the moment, I see *one* response from Rick in this thread. If
you are suggesting that I should be reading all of the political crap
in this newsgroup prior to making assumptions - no thanks. I admit to
being embarrased for even looking at a fraction of it.

Of course I have opinions about you. They come from reading some of
the crap. And *you* are, in *fact*, a significant contributor to the
off-topic **** pile that has made this newsgroup less valuable to me
and a lot of others.

Happy New Year Chuck.

Here is an idea. Perhaps you and Harry can make a resolution to stop
political trash posting in this NG and flaming people at every possible
chance.....maybe others, including me, will then quit. Until then, you
deserve everything being thrown at you.

BTW: The boat is sold. I averaged 55 hours/season on it, not 15. Thanks
for asking.

Now THAT sounds like suspicious activity that should be reported to the
block granny.

What are you hiding behind that curtain, Gould? Real patriots don't need
privacy. Only those who fear the benevolent oversight of the State need
hide their activities.

This is Grade A Choice stuff ... vintage hobnail boots and black leather
overcoats.

Lets see, the guy was seen standing looking for an extended period at an
important government building. He was carrying a map, marked with the
locations of nearby subway stations. He also carried an almanac that
listed the times and dates of events at that building.

That sure sounds like a spread eagled in the gutter at the barrel of a
submaching gun offense to you guys doesn't it? That should give a
federal Barney Fife the thrill of his career.

How about the guy was just one of ten thousand tourists in DC who
managed to figure out the Metro system and was checking out the times
the Smithsonian was open?

You guys are the scary ones here ... this idea should have died of
laughter in the bar or bombshelter where it originated.

What fantasy? In WW-II spies put ashore by a sub off the east coast were
caught carrying almanacs. May have been for the tides, but they were
carrying almanacs. Fantasy-II?

Sometime in the past few days, the Doonesbury comic strip reran a concept
introduced last summer. Pretty funny. Reporters are asking questions at a
White House news conference. They ask about Medicaid or some such thing, and
the answer from the podium is "9/11". They ask about taxes, and the answer
is "9/11". Finally, one of them asks if that's going to be the answer to ALL
questions. The response is "9/11, 24/7". :-)

Robots! They were fascinating in the 1950s when they were the stuff of sci
fi fantasy. Now, it's getting a little strange.
