Can you imagine what would happen if the US auto companies pulled out of
Canada? Houses in Windsor would be selling for $20K.

Well John, if the US auto companies pulled out of Canada, we would still
have Toyota, Honda, Chrysler, Cami and Magna, plus the 100's of the second
and third tier companies that employ thousands of workers here in Canada for
the Auto Industry in Mexico and Europe.
So I don't think those people in Windsor need to worry.

Well Jim,
In the year 2000 Canada sent 87% of total exports to the USA.
½% went to Mexico, and 4.7% went to the EU.

The Canadian dollar is at a 12-year high against the US dollar (about
83¢), and Canadians are justly proud of that. But remember; an expensive
currency is not helpful to an exporting country, nor to a country that
enjoys a significant foreign tourism industry. Does Canada fit in either
category?

BTW: Please don't take my statements as an attack on Canada or
Canadians, they were not meant that way. I understand that US/Canada
relations are not the best right now, but Canadians need to resist the
urge to tweak the US. Have you heard of the law of unintended consequences?

This is the end of my OT posts for a while, sorry for wasting bandwidth.

Exactly, spoken like a good little goose-stepper for BushCo. By golly,
we'll just invade any country we feel compelled to. But, didn't you say
that BushCo wasn't trying to be the supreme ruler of the world?

The main reason that 75% of Canadians live close to the border is
meteorologically related. It's warmer there.

Nah. It's because it hard to play hockey through twelve feet of snow.

Later,

Toyota is close to surpassing GM as the largest automaker in the world.
Bad GM management, of course. It seems as if Japan's sun is rising while
ours is declining.

You need to removed your clouded union glasses and see that GM is finally
starting to make good quality produts.

GM is saddled with high union costs and liablities, thanks in part to a
complicent guvmint structure that allowed unions much more power than they
ever should have.....and now we are paying the price.
