Now forget what we think.....here are some more famous opinions on the
French from the last 100 years........

Next time there's a war in Europe, the loser has to keep France!!

If it weren't for the French, we would have lost the War of 1812...
You're such an ignorant ass, Herring. Were you always that way or did
your "career" in the Army make you dumb?

Harry, if you would have won the war of 1812, Canada would be part of the
United States of America. ( did you forget that small detail.)

The war was a stalemate. Good thing for Canada...were it part of the
USA, it would be going down the crapper right now, too.

The economy is *booming* in most Canadian provinces. Look at their buck, it's
pulling up to within sight of the almighty Yankee dollar. And it has been the
Loonie coming up, (as much as the dollar going into the dumper because of our
hare-brained management of the federal budget, deficit, and general economy)
that is accounting for the dramatically narrower gap in the currencies.

Gotta watch out for them "socialists", eh?
(insert grin here) They're currently doing very, very well.

You can't win. Now the film production people are crying because work is
dropping off. One big advantage was our weak loonie. Now that it's up to 85
cents and 'Arnold' is working on the film companies in California to stay
home, things are changing. Biggest loosers are Toronto, Montreal & Vancouver
probably followed by Halifax. A neighbour of mine has had steady work
producing CBS 'made for tv' movies the last few years.

I'm always mystified by this statement.

Just what did the French do to help up win the War of 1812?

Most historians believe that if the Brits were not tied up in a second
front, they would have wiped us entirely. That second front was
with...the French.

You are certainly correct on this one Harry. The United States Army got
their butts kicked when they tried to take Canada.
With the help of British Regular Soldiers, the Canadian Militia and our
Indian allies soundly defeated the invaders from the south.

Mr. Madison's war would have been lost but for the fact that at the same
time the Brits were fighting us, Napolean was giving them real problems
in Europe and on the high seas. Thus, the Brits were not able to
concentrate their forces on us. Even so, they won most of the early
battles, and chased us out of Washington, D.C. for a while. By the time
the Brits defeated Napolean, we had regained some ground a,d it was
bascially too late for the Brits to rally and run us down. There also
was Jackson's successful defense of New Orleans, which, interestingly,
took place AFTER the war of 1812 was over and a treat at Ghent was
reached.

Most historians believe that if the Brits were not tied up in a second
front, they would have wiped us entirely. That second front was
with...the French.

Under than logic, we might as well thank Russia for helping us during
the war of 1812 because they sucker punched Napoleon.

The simple fact is we should thank the British for helping us win the
War of 1812 because they were stupid and arrogant enough to enter into
a two front war which they couldn't win without OUR help in food and
other merchant supplies.

The French "helped" only by being dumbasses themselves.

It's a tad more complex than that.

No it's not - it's exactly that simple.

I wonder if we'll recall the lesson there, that it is "stupid and
arrogant enough to enter into a two front war which they couldn't win
without" the help of the rest of the world?

Remains to be seen.

Hello Harry,

You mean just like in WWII with "real help" coming only from our "real/true"
allies? (i.e., England, Australia, Canada)

Regards,
Franko

Also, have you ever bought a MacDonald's hamburger in Paris? What they
charge is totally unethical.

John, you were in Paris and bought a burger at MacDonald's??????? Are you
nuts??????
Some of the best small family owned restaurants in the whole world are in
Paris and they are VERY inexpensive. The art of cuisine was invented in
Paris!
