Trolling Motor Battery Hookup

I plan to buy two 12V trolling motor batteries and hook them in parallel for
use with my 12V trolling motor and Q-Beam spot light. What gage wire should
I use to connect the two batteries? When I charge the batteries can I
leave them connected in parallel and charge them both at the same time? I
do not use an onboard charger

I personally would use 10 gage as a minimum, or one size larger than the
trolling motor.

Yes you can charge both at once. Just remember that charging will be just like
the use twice as long.

You won't be able to charge both at the same time and get an even
charge across the two batteries. You can charge one battery at a time
and leave the batteries connected though.

To tell the truth, Walk Mart, Harry's favorite place to shop, has a
very nice little three phase charger for around $17. Two of those and
you are all set.

I would use #8 to 10 battery cable. If you want to get really fancy,
use quick disconnects.

One last thing. Head off to a auto part store and purchase a small
bottle of Never Seize and coat the battery/cable connections with the
stuff.

That is the most amazing stuff made - incredible - no corrosion.

Good luck.

Later,

Tom
